To me, the biggest take in that article is Jim's belief that Toyota will close their LMH programme next year, due to the arrival of Poojoe.

I never said that I think Toyota will close their program. The interviewer did. Toyota is a great company and a great competitor. They want to win. So do we.. it's up to the FIA to make a fair BOP and I believe they will.

I always disliked this kind of communication... if you want to promote your car, just promote your car. Comparing it with another car, you're automatically giving away some of the identity of the car you're trying to promote...
there is a reason if at example when porsche promoted 918hybrid, just focused on showing 918 features instead or release statements telling that 918hybrid had regen brake unlike mclaren p1...

Just my opinion, but I think that's nonsense. If you believe your car outperforms the equivalent Ferrari, well why not say so....

Because as said, he's trying to promote his car speaking about another car. So at the end, what did he actually write about his car? That he arbitrarily thinks his car is the new f40 and that his car can run full power as long has enough fuel to burn, such a shocking new for a not hybrid car...

While I do suspect there is an element of sycophancy to be had, punching up is only natural when a smaller company or start-up is trying to compete with global manufacturers. Think of the number of times something is referred to as an X-killer; it's good business practice to promote any measurable or perceived benefits over the industry-leading product. I don't see it as particularly distasteful in most cases, including this one. Jim even acknowledges (in the merest sense possible!) that the 004/CS isn't a direct competitor to the 296.

To take the manufacturers you mentioned, McLaren first made its name by pitting itself against Ferrari specifically, and making lots of noise about it's favourable figures, even though they were already well-known for the F1 (and their exploits in F1). Now that they're established as a major player in the performance road car market, they don't have to do it. Porsche had no reason to refer to the P1 or LaFerrari with its 918 because of its decades of brand recognition. Glickenhaus doesn't have that yet.

Welcome to marketing. Accentuate the positives, downplay the negatives. Outside of extreme examples, whether people like the strategy or not is irrelevant. It's about getting more people to pay attention, to hopefully get more people to buy.
