What is it about this track that makes the 911 Hybrid so quick?

Also, the Lambo isn't too far off the pace in GT2, and a GT3 Audi is quicker than the Saleen.....

The Audis and Peugeots have already broken Zhuhai International Circuit's lap record, which was previously a 1'24.418 set by Neel Jani for Team Switzerland in the A1GP series.

Long straights and hard braking zones for charging. According to Pat Long anyway.

Yup lots of longish straights in to tight corners onto another straight into another tight corner, rinse and repeat for the whole lap.

The Saleen did very little running, it was hardly on track.

It is 8:15am at Zhuhai and it is raining. Not a downpour but it has been drizzling consistently. Weather forecast for today and tomorrow is for more drizzles. Sunday is expected to be cloudy with occasional sunshine.

I think the teams must be glad they had the chance to run in the dry yesterday.

Mind you these first two sessions were not part of the race weekend and teams had to pay extra to run...so some teams might have decided to do just a few laps or nothing at all.

So the Hybrid has a higher top end on the straights using the flywheel power boost than the GT2? Interesting, I didn't notice that at Petit. But maybe they weren't getting the maximum charge at the Road Atlanta.

Tell that to the GT2 drivers who were saying how the Hybrid was going like **** off a shovel down the back straight at Road Atlanta and none of them could keep up with it.

Some interesting straight line figures:

Audi Dumas 276 km/h
Peugeot Bourdais 273 km/h
Audi McNish 273 km/h
Peugeot Montagny 264 km/h
Porsche 997 Lieb 230 km/h
Audi R8 LMS Yoong 225 km/h
Ferrari F430 Vilander 225 km/h
Audi R8 LMS Yu 221 km/h
FLM Zacchia 221 km/h
Lambo LP560 Goethe 220 km/h
Pescarolo Da Rocha 217 km/h
Porsche GT3 Hybrid Bergmeister 211 km/h

Both Audi R8 LMS from GTC class were quicker than or as quick in a straight line against FLM and LMP2 machines.

The Porsche Hybrid is not particularly quick down the straightline though.

Strange Montagny was the slowest driver(and by quite big margin, almost 10km/h) among the other factory/diesel protos

Practice 2 is over. It was raining still. Peugeot Bourdais fastest 1:32.640. Audi McNish second 1:32.671. Then Peugeot Montagny and Audi Capello.

Surprisingly the JLOC Lambo Murcielago was sixth fastest behind only the 5 LMP1 cars.

time post by GT2 cars, the LMPC and the hybrid are just close,Ried was only 1.7s slower than Lietz this time,i can see his progress.likely they can get team points from both entries,so winning the GT2 class title is still possible

I would not worry about Montagny being slow now but i am sure he is going for pole..And i hope he gets it..He is the best person to led the race..

Just checked the Practice 1 timing pdf (here). Is car #91 a locally built fake (with the name of the genuine article subtly changed)?

Looks real to me. But then the best cheap knock off's always do!

http://photos.speedtv.com/gallery/IL.../0aw07wW7l44Ig

Nice gallery though from SPEED inc. the 77 Felbermayr taking to the gravel. Slightly wet!

Not seen a forecast but if conditions stay like this the Hybrid should be laughing.

According to their website, they've owned the car since 2008!

"We are semi-works team supported by Aston Martin Racing. The car is properly prepared from the factory and is constantly updated to the present specifications."

is that not the Vantage GT2? Was hoping we'd see that one, but apparently destined not to.

The car at Zhuhai is a DBRS9 a GT3 car. The car at Okayama last year was a Vantage GT2 (the development chassis).

Just so some people don't get confused.
