If they don't go, people will accuse them of cowardice (possibly wrongly, but that's neither here nor there). And they will need to test their pace against Peugeot before Le Mans; because you can guarantee the Pugs will last this year, no problems, and probably be faster.

Problem is the people that will say Audi are cowards are Europeans, and likely to be the people that are on forums. A very small group that Audi can easily ignore and justify to their shareholders.

The Americans can do the exact opposite, saying Peugeot are cowards for not racing in the ALMS full time.

So let's not go into that Marketing divisions decide where Audi and Peugeot will be racing, not us (yet).

Henri stated that there would be 2 Pescarolo P-1's, under his banner, and 2 P-2's with team(s) yet to be announced in 08.

I can only support this by saying that these decisions are not taken based on racing fans opinions.... and the "cowardice" argument...that can be rebated in 30 seconds looking at a balance sheet.

On the Audi front I noticed a new R10 based billboard campaign in London today - based on driving past it it looked like mean looking R10 in grey/silver with prominent Shell branding - not sure on precise wording.

On nothing more than ((gut feel + inherent optimism) x observed advertising) I'd be really surprised if we don't see an Audi official presence in Europe next year.

There's also a radio ad, where they state the Audi, with Shell, is the first diesel powered car to win Le Mans.

Shouldn't we merge this and the "Le Mans Series 2008" thread, 'cause looking at two is decidedly confusing, as they seem to have switched over!

See the other LMS08 thread...

A private 908 could run LMS instead(name given as possibility: Charouz Racing)

Franck Montagny has left Toyota. Oreca-Courage or Pescarolo for him next season? In 2005 he drove for Oreca and in 2006 for Pescarolo.

There's a lot of good drivers on the market ATM.

In previous years they may have chosen Indycar/Champ Car, but sportscars looks a good option right.

Who do we have:-

Montagny
Wurz
R Schunacher
Lehto
Herbert

.....anyone else?

Here's a little "update," though inconclusive:

Don't worry Tom, I think we're going to be OK!!!

'canam' has suggested on the 'How to take the ALMS to the next level' thread that you guys across the Pond get Patrick Peter to run it. I think it's a great idea (he'd sort out those LMP2 cowboys for sure) and you can send Atherton & Co over here to run the Le Mans Series. Bingo!

That's a great idea. Mr Atherton and co are good at marketing and getting people through the gates. Mr Peter is good at getting grids. 'By George, he''s got it!!'

Surely we're not crediting Patrick Peter for the LMS grid sizes are we?

Prior to the LMS, sports car racing (at the international level) was dead in Europe. Now it is thriving. He has been runnin' it since the LMS was created. Who else would take the credit?

Despite the lack of promotion, we have oversubscribed grids (although Interlagos revealed how soft the underbelly is) and the ACO has the opportunity to impose its long term sporting objectives on the series.

Are you suggesting that someone else was responsible?

it was me

i've been going to LMS since 2004, and err...grid sizes have been soaring since then. The only one i missed was 05, and it hooned down- because i wasn't there
