2008 Red Bull Junior Team
I haven't seen this mentioned elsewhere. Last week, Red Bull announced its junior team for 2008.
http://www.redbull-juniorteam.com/20...c98628cbb6a126 Red Bull Juniorteam 2008, the drivers: Mikhail ALESHIN - RUS - Team Carlin, World Series by Renault Jaime ALGUERSUARI - ESP - Team Carlin, Formula 3 UK Sébastien BUEMI - SUI - Arden, GP2 / F1 Testing Karun CHANDHOK - IND - GP2 Stefano COLETTI - MCN - Team Signature, F3 Euro Series Tom DILLMANN - FRA - Team Mücke, Formula 3 Euro Series Brendon HARTLEY - NZL - Team Carlin, Formula 3 UK Daniel JUNCADELLA - ESP - Euro Intern., BMW Europ. Series Mika MÄKI - FIN - Team Mücke, Formula 3 Euro Series Daniel RICCIARDO - AUS - Team SG, Formula Renault 2.0 Jean Eric VERGNE - FRA -Team SG, Formula Renault 2.0 Jean Karl VERNAY - FRA -Team Signature, Formula 3 Euro Series Robert WICKENS - CAN - Team Carlin, World Series by Renault For comparisson, here is the 2007 list: Mikhail ALESHIN RUS World Series Renault 3.5 Jaime ALGUERSUARI ESP Formel Renault 2.0 EC Pedro BIANCHINI BRA Formula BMW Germany Sébastien BUEMI SUI Formula 3 Euroseries Stefano COLETTI MCN Formel Renault 2.0 EC Tom DILLMANN FRA Formula 3 Euroseries Brendon HARTLEY NZL Formel Renault 2.0 EC Neel JANI SUI Champ Car World Series Kevin MIROCHA GER Formula BMW Germany Daniel MORAD CAN Formula BMW USA Mika MÄKI FIN Formel Renault 2.0 EC Oliver OAKES GBR Formel Renault 2.0 EC Edoardo PISCOPO ITA Formula 3 Euroseries Jean Karl VERNAY FRA Formula 3 Euroseries Sebastian VETTEL GER World Series Renault 3.5 Robert WICKENS CAN Champ Car Atlantic Adrian ZAUGG RSA GP2 I'm surprised that Morad is gone. He was a late addition last year, he won his championship and did well at the FBMW world final. I hoped he would race in Europe this year. Not likely without Red Bull's backing. |

Does anyone know the arrangement is with Red Bull and these drivers? Does RB pay for each driver's seat?

Any idea what happened to American driver John Edwards? He did Atlantics with Red Bull in 2007 along side Wickens.

From what I understand, Red Bull has dramatically reduced its financial involvement in the Junior program and now focusing on the upper echeleons of the motorsports ladder. I've also heard that they are no longer offering full budgets to all the drivers. Maybe the the start of the end the program. Who knows, driver development programs come and go.
Cheers, Al. |

Well unless they found a tree that grew greenbacks, I'm not all that surprised.
Take into account they support a TON of other extreme sports activities and not to mention their involvement in the motorcycle racing circles as well. |

RedBull sponsor young talented drivers so they can have the sponsorship to make it to the highest level. Also for marketing too. |

I think Ricciardo is a good talented driver. He got 6th in his first season in formula renault italia with RP motorsport, (not a top team). Now with experiance and now is in a top team, Im sure he will challenge the Formula EuroCup championship for sure! Then 2009 could see him in F3 Euroseries or British F3 or even Formula Renault World Series. |

The one thing I've always found very odd is how Red Bull markets, or doesn't in this case, its Junior program. Rather than try develop personalities or promote the drivers, everyone I've dealt with associated with the program was not allowed to do much in the the way of promotion. No press releases or appearances. In addition the drivers had to be very straight laced, no piercings, tattoos or crazy haircuts. Seems odd, considering the rest of the Red Bull family of athletes features out going characters, in line with the overall marketing of the Red bull drink.
Cheers, Al. |
