Spanish Company Sunred Building Car for FIA GT1

The Spanish motorsport company Sunred is planning to build a new car for FIA GT1. They say that they will only build 10 street legal versions to make it a legal GT1 car. Here is the link to the article and some drawing of the car.

I wonder if it shares anything with Sunred's Seat Cupra Rs (or whatever they are calling them now), and I wonder where the V10 is coming from. Dodge?

It is my opinion that this isn't the type of car that should be in GT1. Hopefully they don't approve this thing.

Their current car is the SR21 running in Spanish GT, you can see a picture of it here: http://www.gt-eins.at/cms/index.php?...d=32&Itemid=49

But good to hear someone else is joining GT1...maybe i was wrong by saying that the future of GT1 may be endangered due to no new cars.

Meets the ruleset and isn't too different to a Saleen S7..

Other people speak so fondly of homologation specials of the 70s, 80s, early 90s. This would be more or less one of those if it is successful.

The V10 is supposed to come from Judd.

but Saleen has built over 70 S7s.

Will this new GT1 car race for several years?

Bil588, Ford only built 7 GT40 Mk-IIIs (the road-going version), out of 107 total GT40s constructed, and that was back in the 60s.

More to the point though, if manufacturers are being lured into LMP1C for 2010 and beyond, it may be up to small-volume constructors to provide a fair amount of the machinery if you want a GT1 class in the long run.

I think the car must have something to do with the Hispano-Suiza HS21, introduced back in 2002. It has something Saleen S7 here and there...

This is the car Sunred currently runs in Spanish GT, the SR21:

Which I seem to remember is based on the Seat Cupra R Concept:

I don't think there's a problem with allowing small firms in to GT1 as long as there's no silly advantages to be had perfomance wise over the more wider produced cars.

The K'segg is effectively the same sort of firm and they are also entering next year.

However the MC12 was effectively a homologation special from a big manufacturer so why shouldn't specialist firms be allowed to do it too?

My thoughts would be to have them run for a class championship or something, not necessarily for the overall title...

The difference I'd say is that Koenigsegg has already put plenty of road cars out. RedSun hasn't done any, and appears to want to stop at 10.

I generally agree. If it's a small budget thing then possibly a Citation Cup entry?

Also, what is the minimum limit for road going versions of the car? They state ten but... isn't it supposed to be 25, or is that the rule for GT2?

Yeah TheNewBob, i'm sure it was 25 required for the MC12 to go racing, so I guess that's what K'segg and this Spanish lot will have to aim for as well?

For ACO competition, it is 25 cars for large manufacturers, 12 cars for small manufacturers, for the GT1 class, plus a number of other stipulations.

I was going to say the same thing about the Hispano-Suiza connection...

The SunRed nose is very MC12ish

and by the way, these kinds of cars actually SHOULD be what GT1 is all about. cars like this, the saleen, the MC12... they do belong here, cars that are just barely road legal, most of them having to be detuned for "race use". GTP's should be cars that are a step above that, and GT2's a step below. Then GT3 should be for the more "mainstream"... really I think GT3 has the perfect selection of cars right now...

It must have had three people design the car, because it doesn't match up!
and the new one looks a bit fat from some angles.
I'm not so sure, they will need DEEP pockets.
