fibreglass?
doesnt fibreglass rot or disintergrate after continual use in water?

Once fibreglass has been laminated I'm pretty sure it will last indefinately, subject to it not being over stressed (or driven into a tyre wall like my nose cone )
Fibre glass matting is, I think, "held together" by some form of emulsion, and when i bought some (for a new nose cone!!) the chap at ScottBader, who was very helpful, said to keep it dry to stop it falling apart. |

Fibreglass CAN suffer a form of 'osmosis' in the wrong circumstances.
If an area exposed to water isn't fully sealed with gel coat or resin then water soak into the construction. If the water then freezes it expand and smashes open the fibreglass. This is VERY rare but can happen. Also, if there is a significant amount of heat involved (near boiling point) then fibreglass can deteriorate over time, depending on the raw components used. |
