British GT Rounds 1-2 Oulton
Well the first race is over and the results are in with CR Scuderia winning, VRS in 2nd and the Christians in motorsport car in 3rd. One thing they all have in common once again, they are all Ferrari 430's. Unfortunately however the race seems to have been overshadowed by a big accident concerning the GT4 Ginetta, fortunately however it would seem Abbot is ok. Full race report and results here.

there is a thread about this on the marshals forum. sounds like driver is more or less ok, parlty due to the car safety features doing there job but also becuse of great response the marshals on scene. according to one report i read they had to extinguish the drivers overalls aswell as the car!

Yeah, both cars rolled, but the Ginetta was by far the bigger accident.
http://www.jakobebrey.com/pictures_p...008&page_id=22 I thought the driver was dead when I saw it... |

Hi there,
Had a great day at Oulton Park yesterday, must say I to feared the worst when I saw the aftermath of the Ginetta crash. Luckily the driver was OK. Man that Ginetta crash was very, very nasty. So glad that he is okay and that there was no injuries.
What with that and the Lambo crash, sounds like a dramatic opening round. |

G50 accident video footage
I was propped up against my car in the disabled section at Hizzeys when the accident happened. Fortunately my camcorder was ready to roll and I caught the action as the car cleared the armco. When the car burst into flames all I could think was 'I hope I'm not filming someones death'. Fortunately you see hunter climb out (albeit on fire) and the Marshals sprinting in to put him out.
I just want to say a great big well done to the Marshals who risked their lives diving into the conflagration to extinguish the fire. Without them, Hunter may well have been seriously hurt. Brave men and women, each on of them. G50 Accident and explosion |

Thank Goodness the cars are built strong these days. Here's hoping for an uneventful (accident-wise) rest of the series!

You just caught that there! Good video and pics of the accident. Scary how large the fire gets, just shows how little time a race suit has, his is burnt already. I think the fire retardent period is about 12 - 15 seconds from memory ?

I marshalled it but didn't see the crash, but heard about it, sounded really bad, I heard they used 16 fire extinguishers on it.

Hi guys long time since I've posted here, but I thought I would as I was stood fairly close to this accident as it occured.
Just thought I would tell you what I saw as it happened and what I saw when the dry powder had settled. Unfortunately I had just changed my memory card (and then my pants )when it happened and was to transfixed with the event to put camera to eye! http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/f...220308384b.jpg http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/f...220308394A.jpg http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/f..._220308399.jpg http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/f..._220308441.jpg As the Ginetta and Aston No 63 were along the straight towards the corner before dropping down the hill, either the Ginetta moved across to the Aston or vice versa, with the rear left of the Ginetta coming into conatact with the front right of the Aston (looked as though the Aston turned into the Ginetta), which then pushed the back of the Ginetta to the right and thus into a spin onto the grass and you have seen the aftermath. Looking at the area where I was stood you could see mid point between the track and the first armco it contacted, an area grass and dirt which had been dug up as the front end dug in, which looks as this caused the car then to become airbourne and hit the first piece of barrier. Looking at the barrier one or two of the wooden posts behind had been shattered towards the top, which would have aided the car into the air. Looking at the second contact point on the armco a little lower down the hill, the same had happened, which I think pitched the car more violently into the barrel roll, before coming to rest on its roof, with the fuel tank destroyed spraying fuel over the sorrounding area and catching on fire. A very nasty accident, which I thought the worse the same as everyone else did, but it just goes to show that Ginetta build an extremely strong car, the marshals did an excellent job and all the safety gear works. Without these Mr Hunter may not have been so lucky. Oh and the pics, first two are of the car and bits, third is of Mr Hunter alive and hopefully well, the fourth is the damaged to the Aston. |

Watching the live timing because couldn't make the event. And the Christians in Motorsport team were leading by around 16 seconds but then got a 20 second stop go penalty in the race on Monday around 10 minutes from the end. I thought they were looking comfortable in front but that cost them the race. So why did they get the penalty? Does anyone know?
Thanks, Matt. |
