Very good news.
Good to see Jonathan Palmer getting involved in this - he seems to be keen to help bring a proper structure to the often unweildy British motorsport. |

(apart from Cadwell) not sure that we need another championship. Can't he just promote Southern c'ship as it is? dont want to dilute what we have.

This isn't an extra championship - it is the Southern Championship, doubtless with a new name!

And I am told it will just be another BRSCC region for KoK purposes.

It will probably be called the MSV FF1600 Championship - and it so happens that it is mainly in the south.
Southern competitors can do the Champion of Brands. There are very few of them. This just makes it more of a National championship which I expect will prove very popular. |

Plus we already have races at Oulton and Snet (as pat of southern).
Why not re-badge it as the MSV Southern FF1600 c'ship and keep the dates the same? |

What would people think of a Southern CHampionship and a Northern one
Northern with rounds at OP, Anglesey, Croft, Cadwell, Mallory and Donington With the Southern at Brands, Snetterton, Thruxton and Castle Combe? Then have a large neutral venue for a end of season shoot out at the WHT? |

Combe people are all very local so they wouldn't want to travel, as are a lot of NW competitors (hence relatively low anglesey numbers and cancelled Croft race). Midlands people are all midlands based and so don't like venturing as high as Croft or anglesey or as west/low as Snet or brands regularly.
Why not have a northern championship, a midlands championship, a south-west champiosnhip at combe and a southern championship? oh wait.......... Last edited by JustinDawkins; 5 Jan 2005 at 16:21. |

Anyway, back to topic. What people perhaps haven't realised is that this is the Southern Championship plus three races, at Cadwell and Oulton. And you only really need one more date if you run the Oulton date at a NW round. Then you'd have a huge entry for both championships I expect.
When I had few details on MSV's involvement I was apprehensive, but I really can't see a whole lot wrong with this. |

why don't they just sponsor the KOK... (I know they use other circuits as well)
Why have a southern championship that has 3 races "up north"? |

Why have a North West Championship that has two races in the NE and four in Wales?
As I said, nothing is being taken away from the Southern FF1600 championship and competitors that don't want to venture North can do just as many races at Brands and Snett as they would have done before, and contest the Champion of Brands title. The number of hard core Southern competitors is very small, however. Last edited by Ian Sowman; 5 Jan 2005 at 16:37. |

If you are based at Brands Hatch then it is a 4 hour drive to Oulton and maybe more to Cadwell? |

Those who have seen the SFFC Zetec drivers newsgroup will be aware that they don't want to venture north and these are the 'monied' ones [at least two of whom are stepping up to FF1600 this year]
Nice idea, but I think the none Southern rounds will be like Super Classic, with the locals ruling the roost and the handful of championship regulars - who do travel -nowhere. I remember seeing Super Classic at Oulton, when a leading driver in that championship was lapped by just about everybody |

Cadwell is a bit nearer Brands than Oulton is - as the crow flies at least

If its aim is to be a national championship as the thread title and the article on clubff1600 suggests, then surley the aim would be to get drivers from all over the country involved. I can see why it is based mainly in the south (as it would be taking over the southern championship) but the main problem would be northern drivers not wanting to travel to Brands for nearly all the races. The race at Oulton would have a good entry because most of the North West regulars would do it so even if only a few southern drivers travelled to Oulton the grid would still be healthy. For a national championship to work there has got to be an equal number of races all over the country to make the travelling pretty much the same for everyone.
