Should there be more Checks???
I beleive that there should checks before and after qualafing and porgessif grid race! At the last meeting with the Hq I was at there were no weighing nor quickly going over the after races and qulifing! |

I race a HQ in Victoria and this also happens down here. You will get a car/driver that will fly and run top ten some meetings then have no power at the next. I is good to stand a scutineering and look at everyones cars and just see how many rules are bent beyond legality, even seen some illegal stuff on the Club Presidents car!!! Not fair for some of us who try to get the most from our cars within the rules.

Is'nt it about time the drivers concentrated on setting up their cars within the rules and drove well raher than were soft c***s and tried winning by cheating.Be a real race driver and treat the cheats with the contempt they deserve.

Problem is that it also needs support from the officials side and, in my experience, there are too many 'senior' officials that are willing to turn a blind eye. And if you point this out in any way you become known as a **** stirrer - yet all that you are trying to do, in reality, is get everyone on the same level playing field.

At one meeting a HQ driver said to me "All the front runners are cheating!"
and I said "What makes you say that?" and he said "look how much faster than me they are" and I said "Maybe they are doing everything right and you aren't" "no" came the reply "I have spent $18000 on this car this year and everything is done right, all the front guys are cheating!" and I said "I have spent $600 on my car this year and I am faster than you!" "Well you must be cheating as well then" said the fool |

Of course - everyone that goes faster than you is cheating <g>
BTW - had a talk to Wakefield about the reason behind not using the starters tower - interesting conversation... |

If you have a technical commissionner, make sure he's on the boil and if you see something you know is wrong, talk to him about it. If nothing gets done, put $50 where your mouth is and protest the guy. It's not a soft option, but if all else fails......

In the real world "All men are born equal . . . . only some are more equal than others!"
In the motor racing world "Everyone cheats . . . . only some are better at it than others!" |

I like what Dave says, maybe instead of being macho men and accepting cheating at the track and moaning about it later, stand up and spoil the cheaters day by potting him / her and letting the officials know that cheating is part of what they are there to stop. Fine the cheaters or confiscate the illegal parts. Motorsport is meant to be an enjoyable release from everyday ****, so help make it clean, clean the garbage from the tracks. HQ's should be a place to start racing and show the young guy's what is expected at the track not a platform to teach them how to cheat.

What's the price of lodging a protest at the moment? About $1100?

In my experience, scrutineers are a bit like journos. If you do their job for them then you know it gets done.
In all fairness, outside of V8 supercar, thescrutineers are just not familiar enough with the category regs to be truly effective. I have seen omissions andslip ups that range from comical to plain ignorant. So, if the scrut's don't pick it up then the only other way is; a)- try and have a word in their ear about it and hope they don't take professional umbrage to it or b) lodge a protest and considerable personal cost. Tough call. |

Interstingly, I was informed by Stewards and the Chief Scrutineer at Wakefield 3 weeks ago that a scrutineers job is NOT to look for anything other than safety on cars - the job of looking for irrehularities is the job of the - wait for this - Category Scrutineer....(this came up after a request to ensure all cars were fitted with their timing transmitters as per the NCR's and meeting Supp Regs).
When I asked where the FOrmula Alfa, Formula Vee (or whatever they called themselves at that meetings), Improved Production category scrutineers were - 'They won't be at this meeting....' |
