Road Racing Help

Hi i am new to these forums, i basically need some advice on getting into road racing,I live near mallory park, i ride mx at the moment but want to start road racing ive seen a bike for sale in a shop its a aprilia rs 250 for about £1700 ready to race, dont know the year but its old shape its got rear onlins arrows race exhausts and has been tuned it does not come with many spares like wheels.

Does any one ride or has riden an rs 250 for racing what is the reliability like and would it be a good starting bike or not, do many people use them still or should i ride a four stroke instead. Im 19 6 foot tall and 11.5 stone.

Any advice or tips would be great!

thanks

Whow, you're almost 6 metres tall??
Anyway, i raced against RS125's several years ago and they seem pretty reliable and one of the faster, if not the fastest bikes of their class, i guess that the 125's are not that much different to 250's.
But yeah, they seem pretty good to start out and be competitive with if they're tuned properly.

And the Aprilia RS250 engine is one of the most used in the Proto classes, so that must mean that they're good, right?
But i don't know how it's like in the UK though, might be totally different...

Tater,

The rs250 would be a good bike to start on but with your hight (6 foot) you may find a 600 a bit easier to get on with.

My advise would be don't buy the first bike you see have a good look round and try to get something that has got spares (wheels etc) to help save on the cost's.

Get hold of a copy of Bikesport news they have quite a good for sale section, get to a couple of club meetings at Mallory and talk to some of the riders about cost's etc.

Go onto www.motoforum.net you will get some good sound advise on there from riders and other people in the know.

Dave

No I'm the chief marshal for New Era who run club meetings all over the country, in fact we have one at Mallory on the 30th and at Donington 31st May.
