This is what kinda got me about the Peugeot situation and locking in initial homologation as this massive thing. From the outside looking in - there seems to be a tonne of stuff you can do to change the car, especially if you can argue it's a safety issue.

Everything we've been told about this Toyota is that it's inherently flawed, yet they've managed to alter and improve it without using a joker?

Yes, all changes toyota did without spending a single joker is quite bizarre...
it seems as long they can prove they need to change something out of stability/reliability issue, that change is granted no matter how big can impact the original homologated design of the car.

I think part of their argument is that it was flawed because it was designed to a set of regs which were subsequently changed. So the minimum weight change meant their weight distribution was not great which meant the tyre sizes they had chosen were wrong etc etc

And fair play from both parties, allow the team to present its case and FIA to review why change is needed based on other changes made rather than the blanket NO, you're wrong.

Seems reasonable to me. I didn't think the changes were for weight distribution reasons nor did I think their changes for them would be allowed without a joker. Very interesting.

Not the brightest moment for Lopez yesterday and he's made quite a few mistakes in his WEC career, don't think he's long for that seat. Who knows though, maybe he's best buds with Kobayashi?

Genuine question - what other mistakes has he made beyond Silverstone 2017 on his debut? I heard Haven referencing similar on the commentary but my memory aint great.

Seems like the Toyota has really been pegged back. They made a race out of it but theirs pace was not close to the Alpine. But if the ACO wants it to be sprint vs stint then it seems this way is here to stay. Imo it's not the beat but if it's producing an actual race that's a plus.

They were running 1-2 at the time of the crash and might as well finished like that without the red flag(s).

This is definitely not what racing should look like. They let the old car win against the new sensation, the LMH class. It is a big shame actually!
I really hope that at least for LM the ACO gives some performance back to Toyota. This 8 hrs was pace-wise a disaster for Toyota.

I wonder if the hybrid problems are related to the battery state. Toyota were saying that they were not boosting enough related to how much regeneration takes place. I'd guess that'd be a problem after a while but just a guess.

The weather seemed to work against them as they seem to be relatively slower in the wet. I think they prefer it dry.

If this is true they must be pretty far in the development process. I know there has been some reliability issues with the cars this year, but both cars did make the podium at Le Mans last year!

Are we really surprised by this? It's looked a bit of a mess hasn't it since debut. Even hobbled by BoP it's been a struggle for Toyota to get it in the performance window they'd like.

It really doesn't seem like they'd be in a great spot once the LMDh armada arrives.

Technically and sport. regs speaking, I think LMH will still have advantages on lmdh, just for the simple reason that LMH can push 500-520KW for the whole time, no matter if from ICE or ICE+ERS while lmdh will probably be in that range of power only during the ERS boost release. So what about the homologation rule if toyota will be allowed to use a fresh new car next year?
Just throw that out of the window or a big work around rules exercise?
