750 Hot Hatch Info?

Hello,

Is anyone clued up on the 750 hot hatch series? I'm looking for somewhere to race my peugeot 205 next year and I'm interested in this series.

The only problem is that I run throttle bodies and the 2004 regs seem to suggest that this isnt on. So my question is - am I reading this right in that throttle bodies are out or are there any changes planned for 2005?

The regs state (for up to 1.6 injected) "the entire inlet track from between throttle housing & engine must be standard". The throttle bodies mean that I've replacement manifold which seems to go against the above.

Also - any other suggestions for series are welcome. I've done a couple of years at the castle combe saloons but I'd like to venture further afield (and the castle combe grid is getting way over priced for a local club championship IMO). BARC mod prod's looks like its finished with 6 cars on the grid.

I'd like to stay on road rubber rather than go down the slick route and there's a limit to how fast a 1.6 / 160bhp 205 will go

thanks...

jon

I can assure you that the Toyo Mod Prod's is finished by any stretch of the imagination. Yes the numbers on grids have been low this year due to a numebr of reasons, but certainly not down to the six that you quote.

Moves are afoot to revive things for next year and both the BARC and Toyo Tyres are keen to improve things.

The club has more members than ever before with several new cars (BMW 850, Clio, Escort RS Turbo, Honda Civic Type R etc) being prepared, several cars awaiting repair after problems (Rover SD1's, Metro GTi, BMW M5) and a lot of interest from people currently running in other series with low numbers (including 750 hot hatch!).

And without wishing to state the obvious if you joined us there WOULD be larger grid numbers.

I hope you give our series at least a chance but if not good luck in whatever you choose.

Hello, i was just going on the fact that there were only six finishers at mallory which is pretty weak by any account. However I did talk to both Robin and another person to do with hot hatch and they're not allowing throttle bodies, end of story.

So if you're confident that mod prods will be running next year (which you sound as if you are) then you'll have another baby 205 driving around at the back of the grid trying to keep up with the fast stuff

I guess its a general problem with all three modified saloon series (hot hatch, mod prods & CC saloons) - if you restrict modifications then the new 16 valve stuff (civic type-r's and the like) will destroy the old 8 valve 205's and the like, so they wont bother to turn up. However if you allow modifications you end up with the 400 bhp plus stuff thats at castle combe. I, probably like many, dont actually mind not being in with a chance to win races, but I do want to be in the middle of the pack having a race.

I think the hot hatch series is on the right track restricting the newer cars more than the old. They just need to allow throttle bodies on < 1.6cc 8valves There are loads of 205's and fiesta's around its a shame that there isnt a series where they can be competative in a slightly modified (rather than insanely modified) form.

Yes I meant NOT FINISHED, really must either learn to type or learn to proof read things before submitting them!

As for a 16 valve stuff running away with things, I spent all last year being beaten by an 8 valve Mk2 Fiesta and almost all the races this year have been won by either an 8 valve 205 or an 8 valve Starion.

Because we all have to run on the same tyre it is a great leveller and because it isn't a 'track day special' it really stops the big horsepower cars running away with things. They are also supplied VERY cheap to us which helps immensely with running costs.

Anyway if you want any more information on the series and what is in plan please phone Gerry Cain on 0207-236 0096.

Hopefully see you out there, even if it is just a one off to try us out (if you run on on 195/50 15's I could probably even lend you some old full depth tyres from my collection).

I'm of the opinion the Hot Hatch and Toy's should merge. That would be a strong series and a good step up from Stock Hatch.

I run in the Toyo's and whole heartedly agree.

Unfortunately NONE of the race series organisers seem interested in actively progressing mergers and would rather wait and see what happens.

This is really dumb as it is killing club motorsport and will benefit no-one in the long run.

Would you see the series run in parallel given the hot hatches are less modified or just have them run to the Toyo regs?

Any other merger suggestions?
