Franchitti's Back!
http://www.indycar.com/news/?story_id=12429
Now official! I'm very happy to say the least. Thank goodness his miserable nascar crusade will end for now and return to his proper home! Last edited by Speedblood; 2 Sep 2008 at 20:19. |

Great stuff. Things went wrong in NASCAR, but it's done nothing to ruin his reputation or status in Indycar. Hopefully Wheldon will also get a decent ride.

Fantastic! It was worth a go I guess, but Indy is where he belongs. Maybe Scotty will have some competition next year.

It's amazing how life goes on, given Dario at the beginning of 2007 season, was intentioned to retire at the end of that year....

So what will it say about IRL if a NASCAR failure comes back and wins immediately? To the man in the street anyway?

I don't believe Dario is a NASCAR failure though. To the man in the street he's a Marcos Ambrose who popped up in a few races and went away again. He didn't have enough of a NASCAR career to be considered a failure (cough cough Reed Sorenson cough)

Sorenson did at least qualify on speed for all his races in his first season.

And in the the case of Dario, I'd say that one year imight be not long enough to adapt. Can some expert please tell me if Tony Stewart succeded in Nascar from the gitgo? |

Started his first Daytona 500 from pole, IIRC. But he had a season in Busch to get acquainted.

This is going to be the only way Chip will get what he wants. Since apparently winning races and being top 5 in the championship isn't good enough when your teammate is winning more races and leading the championship. Oh well since Dan is going back to Panther, I'm going to pretend I'm 17 again. |

I'm sure we all saw it coming a mile off, but Dario will drive for Ganassi in the Surfer's race next month.

No offense, but Dario was on the backside of a great career before he went to NASCAR. Now he is coming back to take a seat away from someone who is on the upside of their career. In my own opinion the better thing for Dario to have done was either to have retired or to have moved to sports cars.
He has nothing left to prove and I really do not believe he has anything left to prove it with at this point in his career. |

I dont think he is trying to prove anything. I think he wants to race, if he is still enjoying it then there is the motivation, not to prove anything.

The whole point to being a racing driver is to prove that you are faster than the other guy(s).
Otherwise, why bother? |

He's a popular driver. It gives the IRL more star power.

We'll see how good Dario is in IRL soon enough. Don't judge by his NASCAR performances though - ol' sliced bread over there isn't exactly setting the world alight yet either and I hear he's quite good..... |
