Does anyone know what the relationship is with Lotus? Are UK-based, Malaysian-owned Lotus paying the German-based, Romanian-entered team as a sponsor, or is the team paying a licensing fee to Lotus in return for a recognisable, high profile name?
It just seems such a sham to use the name in this way.

Thanks. Here's hoping the Lotus makes it to the race without any hiccups and can see the checkered flag

OK, apparently so. I still feel I need video evidence. Then I can go and make a marinade for my hat.

They had a decent first practice, stayed ahead of the GT's. I'm sure they weren't pushing the envelope and are still getting a feel for the car and track.

Ok, I know you cannot bring everything but how naive is it not to bring a spare gearbox for a brand new car?

That has to be an off the shelf item from a supplier doesn't it? Could another team be using the same brand? The teams website doesn't list a brand but just says "6 gear sequential gearbox with pedal shift". Would hate to see them unable to continue.

If it is an off the shelf item then they may be able to get some parts to rebuild the internals.

The T128 had a bespoke transmission, as this car is an upgraded T128 (not 'all new' by any stretch) it may well be that this car retains that unit...

They received replacement spares from UK last evening so all should be OK now. Probably. Maybe. You never know when the information flow from the team is so non existent.

DSC guessing it's Caterham Le Mans now...

Anyway I guess the goal for today is either
a) finish the race
b) finish ahead of LMP2...

Rebellion should be well clear. Not that winning L really causes reasons for celebrations but still

That's good considering that the winning Audi (and the second Audi and the third place Toyota) all ran 157 laps in the race. I assume that the car actually finished? Being only 17 laps down with a car that's had fairly little testing, is virtually brand new with an untried engine, and the issues that they had all weekend was a lot better than many gave the car as far as it's chances of doing much of anything.

Yep, the car finished. 27 of the 29 starters completed the race - that's quite incredible considering the conditions.

I'd say the Kolles team has done a pretty decent job doing this first shake-down session. Better than R-One's debut probably? As they gradually get hold of the car, a true LMP1L battle is coming.

That was indeed a very decent showing for a first outing. Still lacking pace, but the reliability (putting the gearbox issues aside) was apparently there.
