Which FF class to race in?
I'm thinking of competing in FF1600 but having read topics on here about Zetec-to-1600 conversions etc I'm unclear as to which category to race in 1600 or Zetec? Maybe doing Classic FF1600 or FF2000 would ensure parity of equipment?

Basically If you get a FF1600 from the '90s/00's you will be competitive in all 4 kent champs (NW, Combe, Midlands and Southern). I would choose 1600 everytime as there are many more champs to race and many more cars that are racing against you, plus its more fun
have you got a car already or looking to get one? |

I had to smile at the comment about vultures circling but yes RMR, I'm looking for a car. At the moment I'm in 2 minds whether to do Classic, or the S of M & Southern type stuff. I really don't want to have to throw a lot of money at it just to be at the same level as the 'spenders'. I like to think I'm competitive in the seat, but I know I'm not so competitive in the wallet.

know the feeling. Som would be a good bet. SOuthern is poor for attendance. would def rec swift 92/93/95 or vd90/91/92. VD are easy for parts and these cars are really competitive and easy to setup, think there is someone who does that on this site?

do all the FF1600 series (apart from Classics) use the same tyre? RMR, I suppose my first choice car would be a VD RF90 if doing those series' but I suppose they are hard to get. At the moment, I'd go for RF90 or possible a good Swift if going SoM etc, and RF80/81 or Royale RP26 if doing the Classics. I need to make my bloody mind up soon This all started with me looking for a Westfield! because I did a few kit-car races, but I hanker to get back to single-seaters (raced 'em a few years ago, just shoe-tring clb stuff)

RP26 now what a great car that was. Had one myself back in late 70s/early 80s.Many a championship won in one of those by some great FF1600 drivers. I remeber Dave Coyne (remember him) telling me some years later that it was the best FF1600 he ever drove. Recomendation indeed.RP24 wasn't so shabby either in the hands of Kenny Acheson. Be nice to try one again to compare with the 89 Reynard i am currenty driving.

lol - the funny part is most of them are post 89 anyway, and were "moodied" up for pre '90 super classic! Anyone ever seen a '91 or '90 Reynard?
Guess they will all be converted back!! lol |

Just a confirmation, i am as they say. A rent a drive guy so i have nothing to sell. However without mentioning names this is not the first person interested in buying the Uclan Reynard. And here i am lusting after one of those sexy Northstar VD's. However i dont want the one me and the Reynard had a kiss with at Anglesey.

Or you could buy a newer cheaper car FF1800 !!! FF1800 (zetec) engine last longer and takes missed gears with out damage etc plus they are more equal

You would be on the podium as there are normally about three out racing on a good day.

I think there are still a few about the country but most have ended up in motor museuems and canals.

Yes, be fair everyone. There are lots of cars out there, just a problem getting them all out together. When someone comes in asking for information, let's try to accentuate the positives of our own series rather than potentially put people off others.
Star of the Midlands FF1600 is clearly the best, however. |

And 6 or 7 within 750 MC F4 and another 3 or 4 within Mono 1800. OK, not great numbers in their own right but as part of a multi class structure they still represent excellent value and offer good racing against other cars/ drivers. Hopefully interest will grow and this will result in cars being retrieved from the museum, canal, barn or garage and being actively campaigned.
You know, of all the threads I have read on 10-tenths over the last year or so it only seems to be the FF1600 guys who are both actively denigrating another class of racing and trying to recruit people over to their own championships. Nationally, FF1600 seems to be doing very well and has a (deservedly) good following, so why knock other people? I drive an FVJ so I've got no real axe to grind - I think that FF 1600 would be too expensive for me and I admit that I am probably not quick enough (even in my FVJ) to keep up - but I would like to see Mono 1800 and F4 thrive without having FF 1600 actively trying to destroy them by poaching drivers. Perhaps its "the time of the month" and perhaps people will claim to be just taking the mickey but I am bored with the constant sniping. There are loads of F Ford Zetecs and FVJs about (and they are cheaper to buy and run than a FF1600, without even considering conversion of a Zetec to Kent spec) so how about we all agree to support the growth of club single seater racing in general and the active racing of cars without wings in particular. Drivers will soon gravitate to the series which suits their ability, their location and their wallet best. I'll get my (kevlar) coat. |

I don't know how that slipped out!
I won't be biased towards anyone competing at the 750MC meeting this weekend, unless they give me lots of money first. |

Andy97 - I agree with you. There's a fine line between banter and sniping though, so it's hard to tell when people have crossed it.
Fo future reference: by all means promote your own chosen formula, emphasise the advantages it has over rival championships, but don't simply put down others. It doesn't do anyone any good because ultimately we're here to serve ALL motorsport, and if people get behind the wheel because of, or with the help of, TT, that's brilliant - no matter what they're driving. |

Well hopefully, Ian, you'll push the cause of the F Ford Zetec guys running F4. Telling the spectators how cheap they are to buy and run would be a start. Sadly, can't be there myself to run the FVJ in the invitation class again.
