Strange sights

We've probably all enjoyed the experience of taking "newbies" to LM and listening to the comments from the back seat along the lines of: "Look at that! A Lambo!"

We're equally quite blase about it after a few years and now look for the really unusual. So what did you see this year?

Did anyone see the Routemaster bus on its way home yesterday morning - albeit with people hanging dangerously off the rear platform?

Did anyone see the convoy of Reliant Robins which I spotted just south of Rouen yesterday morning?

Any other strange sightings?

The reliant robins/regals were at St Saturin on friday, they came into the show area in convoy followed by a Silk Cut version then the support vehicle, a saburu Imprezza. Someone must have spent a good deal of time and money preparing that lot.

The usual fancy dress parties were around, I saw the explorers, the arabs, a load in womens cloths and the city gents. oh and a whole load of orange from our dutch friends.

I passed the robins twice in my subaru impreza on the way back (north of Rouen).
Also saw two red London buses, the Only Fools and Horses Totters Bentley, a lime green Koenesegg (sp?) and my dad fall in a ditch and gash his leg on rusty barb wire in the middle of BSJ.
PS: camping in far corner of BSJ this year meant we could see the cars from the inside of the track on run in to Porsche curves - never seen that before.

The Reliants were on the same campsite as me (Houx Annexe Nord) I particularly liked the 'Mercto 1' ghostbusters car based on an old Merc estate complete with lights and sirens.

On Friday night at the Houx roundabout the French riot police had parked their vans (and catering van) all round the roundabout to stop any shenanigans. (They pulled guns on 3 French guys doing burnouts in their Ford C-max hire car!!) When in the distance we heard the Ghostbusters siren approaching much to the amusement to everyone there! they quickly turned of their lights and sirens when they saw the riot police though!!

The Gulf 2CV yesterday tickled me. But no real oddities this year - apart from something called a Lucchini which pretended to be an LMP2 but then disappeared when everyone took the joke seriously..

A buss with Danish fans was stuck on the campingsite, because of the weight the bus sinked into the gras. Funny sight how they tried too pull it out of the gras, first all the passangers tried to push the bus, wich almost worked but eventually leaded in that the wheels where even deeper in the gras. Then a gravemachine came and pulled the buss out by making a whole round, the gravemachine was on the left side of the bus and than pulled it too his side, awesome ending IMO.

It was doing dougnuts in Blue Nord Sunday night as well. Turns out three mates brought it for £600 and aimed to ruin it.

I also saw the pirate ship. Quite the laugh!!! I got a small video of it; I will post it up later.

But stranger than that, at the initial stage of the race I saw 3 pugs leading. Even stranger would be for them to remain as that when the checkered flag would fall. hehehehe

There was a yellow Bentley Van marked up with Trotter International Trading markings at Dover on Friday morning, which we passed on the A28 on the way home, too.

i saw a couch on wheels, complete with what looked like frilly valance round the bottom...although it was quite a distance away so i could have been mistaken.

oh and the escort with "man love rools" written on the side came up behind us in the queue for the ferry.

Was there 2 lots of robins, or was there a speedy repaint? The red were on Houx nod, incl 1 with a 1/2 robin as a trailer. We also spotted some painted in Gulf/Silk Cut livery at Le Harve going on the Portsmouth ferry.

The red ones were marked London/Peckham/Paris/Lemans (LPPL) and the Gulf were Swindon Glassfibre.

Very brave lads, seems they all made it there and back! (I think)

I also saw both convoys of Reliant Robins. I saw the red ones just north of Alencon yesterday morning and Gulf one boarding my ferry last night. In fact they where clapped and cheered on by the watching crowd.

The Ghostbusters Merc was parked up not to far away from my pitch and it did look good. Did anyone see the guys dressed up as Super Hero's in an Audi at the roundabout on Friday night?

I saw the eSpace shuttle, Robins and the Routemaster bus.
eSpace Shuttle was in the same campsite as us (so I guess we can't have been far from Osella?!) the Red Robins we saw at Calais and on the ferry.
We saw the Routemaster on the way back and high fived the guys hanging off the back as we passed them on the motorway - probably not the safest of manoeuvres...

Sounds pretty tame compared to Watkins Glen in the late 60s...
