New? Rear bumpers?

Anyone seen in the current issue of karting magazine the picture from a kart show of an Intrepid with plastic bodywork over it's current metal one?

I'm guessing it's plastic like all the rest of the bodywork. I doubt regulations would allow such a piece of metal like that which could get dislodged and end up being a huge piece of sharp blade in the track

its a plastic piece, and reading on another forum, people were ayiong that from the year 2007 (or 2008) all new chassis will have to be able to support that extra piece of bodywork.

(dont know if there is anytruth to that rumour or not but still)

yeh i spoke to Tim Gillard today and he was at the CIK-FIA meeting and Max Mosley apparantly brang up this issue. its definately going to happen but from wen i dont know yet. personally i dont c wats up with the way bumpers are at the moment! seems pointless as its another cost wen apparantly they r trying to reduce costs, just another manufacturers way of making us spend our money.
however in cadets i could possibly understand their side of the arguement as young guns kinda get dont understand danger as it were, but for us seniors its just gonna b an easy target for people pushing u off

Seniors see danger and ram it.

I do think after looking at the pic they just scream 'ram me off' they basically cover all the wheels. They're turning more in to Touring Cars rather than open wheelers i reckon.

yeh true and we all know how much ramming is involved in touring cars!
i did consider writing an email to the cik-fia and finding out more about the issue but i think i'm gonna move to cars next year to it doesnt really concern me anymore lol

What I can't quite get my head around is that in Europe, they run with what I refer to as the old (very) style bumper we used to have with no protection to the rear wheels. Yet in the UK we keep having bits added to guard the rear wheels. If anything this add fuel to the fire with regards driving standards.

Oli, I know that the drivers in the Euros and Worlds are of a very high Calibre (congrats by the way!!) but are driving standards much much better than say in super 1? Hence why in Europe they have stuck with that style bumper.

My God I feel old, I remember when you could run with no plastics, and more worryingly no air boxes on the engines!! How many of you would try that now on a rotary motor?? Fingers in chains me thinks!!!

I think the bumpers are fine as they are in the UK at the moment. Like i say,t hese plastic things i feel will only promote Touring Car antics. I wouldn't like to race with the European style bumpers, im not a driver who normally loses my temper and starts ramming however what happens if you have a brake or throttle failiure and collide with the back of a kart
