SBR power for Team BOC in 2006!!

This is fantastic news!

Article from the V8central site.

Albury based Team BOC today revealed that they will compete in the 2006 V8 Supercar Championship Series with Stone Brothers Racing engines.

The deal, which now sees the reigning champions supplying engines to a total of eight confirmed cars, will allow the popular Team BOC to run with extra horsepower for their 2006 championship.

Team BOC’s director Kim Jones, was quite pleased with the new arrangement, and anticipates an improved performance from his team during 2006.

“We are very excited about what this arrangement means for our team. There’s no doubt that the SBR engines are the best Ford power plants in pit lane and to know that we will have them in our two cars for the next three years is just fantastic,” said Jones.

“We have spent millions of dollars over the years trying to keep up with engine developments that V8 Supercars now demand with reasonable success, but the fact is that we are still behind the Stones [Brothers Racing] when it comes to on track performance.”

“We now have the ability to get excellent economies of scale and have the best engine package as well. I really think this is the way that V8 Supercars will head into the future,” Jones added.

Stone Brothers Racing originally orchestrated their engine development program in 2004 – when it supplied engines to Larkham Motorsport’s Orrcon Racing program. SBR then increased their supply to contain Triple Eight Race Engineering for 2005, and are rumoured to also be providing engines to a Ford-bound Longhurst Racing outfit for 2006 as well.

SBR’s ethos is to provide teams with competitive engine packages in an effort to keep increasing running-costs in V8 Supercars low. When asked about his thoughts on the reigning V8 Supercar champions workload supplying to eight cars for 2006, Jones noted that more teams means better grounds for development.

“Both Ross [Stone] and I both know that V8 Supercars is getting more competitive every year. By Team BOC joining the SBR engine program it provides an even greater platform for increased development and that’s crucial for both of our team’s futures.”

Ross Stone - Stone Brothers Racing’s team manager, welcomed Team BOC to the fold of his squad’s engine program, and made mention that the new partnership comes with the full approval of Ford Racing Australia.

“We obviously put a lot of initial thought into the development of our engine program and it has grown successfully with LMS and Triple Eight,” he said.

“As part of the natural progression of the business we have reached an agreement with Brad Jones Racing. We see the deal as a win-win agreement with SBR increasing its business and BJR decreasing its development costs while improving performance.

“The sport is becoming more and more expensive and partnerships like this are going to be crucial to the future success of everyone involved.

“BJR is a professional organisation which I am confident will be able to takes its next step in its development through its association with SBR’s Engine development program.”

“This deal has come with the encouragement of Ford and will help improve the development curve of all team involved.”

This year, Team BOC has struggled with their engines after being reasonably competitive midway through the season. The team won the second race at the Australian Grand Prix support races, and are generally regarded as Ford’s most consistent performers at the Super Cheap Auto 1000. However, this engine deal may help the team elevate themselves from mid-pack runners, to consistent top ten performers.

Both drivers John Bowe and Brad Jones will debut their new engine packages at the opening round of the 2006 V8 Supercar Championship Series – the Clipsal 500 Adelaide from March 24-26.
