New Nikon D4, or D800, or a D800E???

Or do I just stay boring, and plump for a 300s???

I MUST retool as the current kit is now 7 years old. It works every bit as well as when I bought it, but it's very Olde Skool these days!

Thoughts? I have to say, a D700 looks tempting right now...

On price grounds and frames per second the D700 wins, if you don't want or need large sensor of the newer models

I'd say wait a month or 3 and then buy the kit. When people start switching from D700 to D800.

66% has just been knocked of the price of the Sigma SD1 (46MP), about $2300!

D700 but just wait out a little bit longer for the price to drop. The D800 is not the best motorsports camera with its low FPS and high MP count. The D700 with a grip is a beast of a camera comparable to the D3s.

And LO! D700 has turned up for about a grand, with 30K clicks to date. The guy 'updated' to a D800, but then he shoots landscapes...
Now I need some glass.

Pretty impressive at ISO 6400. Lord knows when I'd use either that, or the 1 or 2 stops faster it offers, but the 3D AF looks fantastic... Tell it what the target is, and it follows focus wherever the target goes! I must try it out on small boy, and cats...
Initial samples are on Flickr. I'm not hard to find.
I reckon it beats a D300S hands down. And for th same money, I'm not complaining. Off seeking an MB-D10 battery grip, now.

Great buy, hope to see some nice pictures in the magazine from the WEC races then!

Some samples are up from a Kids MX meeting. I need to tweak settings a bit. Sometimes it fools me, and does the unexpected, which is always going to happen with a new camera, compared with one you know inside out and backwards...

It's first REAL trip may well be AMOC at Silverstone this weekend. Then Spa after that.

First trip out was Spa WEC. I picked a 70-300 ED for just on a ton, as I mentioned on another thread, and I'm impressed. I'm still fiddling around sorting it as I want it, but the pictures are great, which is what counts after all!

But the file size... OW! Especially in NEF RAW, I ate 8GB of card in under an hour...
Then I remembered to switch it back to fine jpg...
Some samples on flickr, for those who may be interested?
