I agree, captured the ambience, which is more then just the cars; it is the armies of people on the crews and their jobs, and the armies of fans.

Great race. Congratulations to Audi for a huge power show, and to Ferrari for a great win in GTE Pro.
Shame for IMSA. It's not possible to throw away a class win in LM putting in the car a driver like Ponce in the last laps, when you're battling to win against Lamy and Corvette!!! Hoping for a new Porsche RSR generation in 2013... and waiting for Porsche LMP1 in 2014! |

We missed the GT battle at the end for the slow motion footage...

several porsche 2011 models ran faster than the 2012 ones in qualifying, in race too shown a better performance. BOP can give all gift you want, but if the car isn't good, le mans doesn't forgive (same matter for the vantage gte).

Porsche is not a bad car, but 2012 is too drag, in confront of 2011. So it was slower.

drag is just an excuse... 458 GT is wider than the 2012 997 GT3 RSR and meanwhile this should create more drag is however the gte car with the best top speed (297km/h against 290km/h of 2012 997 and 291km/h of 2011 997). You can't even say that the 458 GT is the most powerfull gte cars talking about engine, because the vantage even if has a 4.5 use larger restrictor than ferrari. I don't even speak about the 700 and more Nm of the corvette engine.

it depend what you mean for "powerfull". If we talk about hp, both engines develope around 470-480hp; if we talk about torque, well is true, because of higher displacement and direct injiection the 458 engine has a torque bend higher than the porsche engine, that however runs with a much higher revlimit (6500vs8000) that should help to reach higher top speeds.

You're the one to say this. Have you an idea of the differences between 2011 and 2012 specs? You only have to watch a picture. I don't think is so difficult... Porsche has declared they've worked to improve the car drag... months before of Le Mans race. But that's another excuse, isn'it? |

Could we continue the technical Porsche/Ferrari stuff in the Porsche/Ferrari thread?

One of the highlights of the race for me was seeing toyota take the lead ..... means they are heading in the right direction .
Shame that accident took one of the Toyotas out , wonder how long it may have lasted had that not happened . What happened to the 2nd Toyota ? |

The whole race changed in the space of about 2 minutes, first, they take the lead, moments later Davidson goes for his unfortunate flying lesson and then the other Toyota tangles with the DW. Up to the second point, the race was becoming incredibly exciting....

Not used to see Corvette so far back.
Couple of minutes ago I saw the first Audi 'winner of Le Mans 2012' commercial. |

Very surprising the amount of GTE mechanical problems, only 1 car didn't go back into garage, the #51.
Perhaps teams are pushing so hard for performance that reliability is being sacrificed? |

Overall a good race to watch from the armchair. Some very entertaining racing early on between Audi/Toyota and Aston/Corvette. Lamy's late charge to overhaul the Porsche was also impressive, although we did'nt get to see much of it on the telly as they kept showing arty slowmo footage and shots of the crowd!
Hopefully we will be back trackside next year. |

Great win for the 458!
Davidson's accident!! At those speeds not even the Fin and the holes will keep the car off the ground. The flat floor effect is too much. |
