LMS Rnd 5: Silverstone 1000km 14-16 Sep 2007

It's a bit early for a thread but here it is anyway...

I was wondering if anybody knows if this race will be run partly in darkness? The last event at Silverstone 2 years ago went from 4pm - 10pm and apart from the rain it was a really good race.

Since there's still no timetable up on the offical LMS site, has anybody heard any rumours? Given that it's going to be a whole month later than the race 2 years ago (13th August 2005), they don't even have to run 4pm - 10pm. Even 3pm - 9pm would provide a least 1 hour's of reduced light to race in.

I really hope it's not 12:30pm to 6:30pm like all the others have been so far.

I'm going to disagree. Whilst I'm a BIG fan of the racing at night at Le Mans, I find it to be utterly pointless in the shorter 'Series' races. I like/prefer to be able to see both the start and the finish of a race. Whilst I can understand that a 'token' hour or so in dusk/darkness conditions may be interesting for anyone who hasn't experienced Le Mans at night, for me, it just serves to spoil the end of the race.

I thought it had been long established that the ACO weren't allowing the LMS races to run into the dark anymore?

I guess it's far too early to talk of entry lists - any likely absenses or additions?

Will both Gavin and Beretta be driving for Luc Alphand or just Gavin? If so, who will LAA drop from the C6.R lineup to accommodate the addition(s)?

What I quite like isn't actually total darkness, but dusk. Watching the cars into twilight in person at Road America was priceless. It's that time of day when you can still see and identify the cars, but the headlights have very much taken effect.

I think Sunday night races are not very helpfull for the spectators, who still may have to travel several hours back home and have to work on the next day...
So nightraces only on Saturdays, I think.

Make sure you go and see as much of the circuit as you can! Also if you have a look at the Silverstone website, there is a possibility you could get your ticket cheaper.

Be prepared for sun, rain, hail, wind, etc. UK weather can be 'interesting'...
As said, walk all the way round over the 6 hours.
Email me, I MAY have a spare FREE ticket?
Depends on if Minime has used up the other 2 I had.

For the start, get to the OUTIDE of the first corner, past the emergency vehicle access point.
Then head out into the country for Hangar straight and the full sound effect!

It's relatively easy to get a good view all the way round these days, as they've built up the spectator banking. It's even possible to shoot over or round the fencing, now...

dj4monie is heading for a stewards' enquiry!
Just heard on the Grand Am broadcast from earlier today, Barbosa will not be back with Martin Short next season. He will drive full-time for Brumos has Hurley Haywood steps into the management role next season.

flipping between that and the cup race, just thought I would pass that along.

If it is true then it is great news both for Charouz and Enge. Enge is a extremely quick driver as we all know and as good as anyone out there given the right machinery. A real top line professional. IMO.
