Shintaro Watanabe (chief engineer of #2) tweets that there is a rumor that BoP weight increase of JAF-GT/MC in Rd.4 was determined based on Rd.3 race results.
He argues that it is the success ballast, not the BoP, that should be decided according to the race results.

Hoppy Team Tsuchiya Motegi round race report
https://www.as-web.jp/supergt/625580

*The team carried out the private test at Fuji before the Motegi round. (Teams that have not scored points can do a private test.)
*Takamitsu Matsui and Takeshi Tsuchiya drove in the test.
*As a result, despite the used tires, it was about 1 second faster than the race lap of Rd.2 Fuji.
*It's a set-up that emphasizes downforce. However, it is not a setup that increases the angle of the rear wing.
*Takeshi Tsuchiya commented that the Porsche GT3 is not a machine that can be handled by gentleman drivers.
*Unlike the previous 3 rounds, Matsui mainly proceeded with the machine set-up in the Motegi round.
*Motegi, which does not have medium and high speed corners, is a circuit suitable for Porsche.
*In the practice session, the team was able to confirm that the new tires in Yokohama were working properly.
*Matsui passed in 4th place in Q1. Sato won the front row in Q2.
*On the final race day, Sato was chosen as the start driver and the team left him to set up the warm-up session.
*Sato demanded a little more grip, so the team increased the angle of the rear wing a little.
*The height of the rear vehicle was raised to take measures against understeering, too.
*Porsche has a fuel tank located at the front, so it tends to be understeering when fuel is low.
*The team decided to replace only the left tire, as rivals were expected to adopt a fuel-only pit stop strategy.
*Sato made a pit stop on lap 24 and Matsui returned to the race in 4th place.
*However, perhaps the warm-up setup change failed, the car began to tend to understeer.
*Although he temporarily fell to 11th place outside the point range, he finished in 8th place due to trouble with other cars.
*It was the first time for the team to score points, but the post-race meeting lasted a long time.
*The set-up Tsuchiya found did not match the set-up Matsui and Sato felt good.
*The harvest for the team is that Yokohama's new tires are competitive.
*In the next Fuji round, Yokohama will introduce evolved version of the tire.

That's good news, let's see how many go. It will probably take time to pick up the spectators, but next season we should see packed crowds again

I understand the BMW's decision. To be competitive at Super GT they cannot go with the current spec. Also, I think they will need to have dedicated place in Japan to do stuffs if they go to GT500 (maintenance garage, R&D etc). Those things will need huge amount of investments.

And, involvement in GT500 need huge support from manufacturers, privateers which using BMW DTM car will be lagged behind anyway.

DTM has no privateers. They are all full works teams. If BMW had any will they could transfer all the marketing money into R&D to compete in GT500. Well, maybe add some more, but not that critical amount. It would all return in media more rapidly then they have today in DTM loosing positions.

Looks like they are afraid of constructors' competition. After years of spec racing in Europe - I suppose - they've lost the spirit required for some open rivalry. And we now see the cost of Berger's word about DTM and GT500 equality. DTM is nowhere near to normal racing machinery, and Berger's words cost nothing.

I think Super GT should drop the class 1 rules after 2021. It's not a good option for the top class to attract new manufacturers or for the series to expand their reach. I wonder if hypercar or GT3+ will start to look like a better alternative? Class 1 isn't going anywhere.

well hypercar hasn't even a proper technical ruleset actually and don't think GT500 will follow that way, also because doing so, there will be also a remarkable cost increase compared to actual specs that have a lot of common parts.
2022 GT3+ specs would require to get back to stock road chassis, cars will be heavily limited aero and chassis wise.... it would be really hard to get a good weight distribution with the gt-r stock chassis and stock supra chassis doen't fit good for a high performances racing car at all IMHO.

Anyway me too would like to see gt500 dropping dtm/class1 specs and come back to something close to insanely good looking pre 2014 specs.

Hm, I wonder if LMDh class would be a good replacement to the Class One regulations in Super GT? If not, how about NGTC from BTCC or Next-Gen from NASCAR?

Next gen Cup cars will have SMG gearboxes and IRS, so they are kinda designed for road courses. They'll still be lead sleds compared to most GT cars in terms of weight, though.

not a big news actually, nascar cars are already used to run in "traditional" tracks like road america, watkins glen, charlotte infield from decades.
Don't how next nascar specs will be, but it's really unlikely gt500 are going to use steelframes chassis

First of all, that Fairlady Z GT500 concept car is gnarly aggressive. Second, it's interesting that Nissan has plans to join NASCAR with the Next-Gen Cup cars.
