Ortelli isn't OK i don't think, there's a hell of a lot of people around him if he's fine.
The car went behind the Audi, it didn't go over it i don't think. |

He missed the back of Nishy by one inch, at 250 km/h
Could have been sooo much worse I hope all is well with Ortelli. |

About as scary an accident as I've seen since Mercedes in 99 at LeMans. Both McNish and Ortelli are very very lucky to have come away from that as they did.

I'm afraid Stéphane Ortelli is wounded.
He has already been taken in the ambulance. It seems better. Last edited by PascaLM; 27 Apr 2008 at 15:14. |

For those who didn't see it, Ortelli was approaching the braking zone at the end of the start/finish straight. Something caused the car to snap sideways - it looked like Ortelli hadn't started to brake yet. Sideways, the car lifted into the air and sailed literally inches above the head of Allan McNish, who was braking for the chicane. The car hit the ground at an awkward angle and started flipping end over end, shedding bodywork all over the track. It continued rolling until it crossed the track again and came to rest against the barrier. One of the scariest crashes I've ever seen, almost on par with Kubica at Montreal or Katherine Legge at Road America.

Audi n.º 2 at the front. Dash to the finish for 1st place...
... and for 5th place, between Nic and Nishy. |

not that many laps left to go now, i think there can only be about 30 mins left of the race now, 45 mins at the most and 15 atleast, i wouldnt be surprised if they called the race now because there cant be much time left.
any news on how ortelli's oreca crashed? |

Dear.
McNish and Ortelli won together at Le Mans 10 years ago. Ortelli took off already once with a Porsche GT1 in ALMS. |

First word from the medical centre is that Ortelli is awake and alert, complaining about pain in his leg. Shocked of course, but never lost consciousness.
So far promising words of what could have been much worse... |

The Oreca car didn't go over the Audi, but behind the rear wing.
Ortrlli was also trying to get out of the car, but was told to stay in it. |
