Le Mans Series 2010

Well with a partial release of the 2010 rules from the Nürburgring and the rest coming in Sept. (?) I thought we could kick it off.

2010 Rules (partial) French/English

As usual it seems Henri is unhappy with the rules! Silly of me to notice he did not mention the change in weight or turbo boost for the diesels. And then of course the Aston is on his list also! Here

I am finding it hard to believe that a type of thread like this has zero posts in it.

As am I MJ. But there isn't much news revolving around the LMS for next year. With FIA GT1 going to the Rat's next big plan, perhaps the current GT1 cars running in FIA GT will need a home. Not much, but it would keep the loud stonkers on track just a while longer. Of course, I think the ACO being a manufacturer-friendly organization wouldn't want to disappoint the multitude of GT(2) manufacturers by keeping the big class.

Hmm, Priaulx and J. Müller joining BMW RLR for Petit, maybe a little more track time in the GT for them ahead of next year?

Lets hope so. The LMS could need another big European company in its mist if its to increase its out reach. I hope Audi come in some form too (Joest or otherwise) with some R15's. I think Kolles have got better as the season has gone on, maybe they could run then?

Don't think Audi would be willing to let Kolles run the R15's, not unless there were extra hands from Audi/Joest on deck to help out. Even towards the end of the season they've been far too inconsistent with the R10's (maybe that's just Karthikeyan, though?).

Who would run the BMW squad? Schnitzer/Alpina?

I can see Schnitzer running any factory backed M3 GT2s in Europe, they ran the last M3 GTR and did a good job.

Maybe. I think depends on their future in touring car racing. If they will do WTCC in 2010 and then switch to DTM I don't think there's room (doing WTCC + developing the 2011 DTM car) for running the GT2.

What about Duller? Last few seasons they race a BMW M3 "GTR" in a 24h events and in Italian endurance series. Would be great to see a Red Bull sponsored Duller BMW M3 GT2 in LMS or FIA GT.

They also ran a Red Bull sponsored Z4 and quit doing that because they were disappointed with BMW's development of the car.

I always was under the impression that the next team in the BMW hierarchy below Schnitzer was Schubert, but then I don't think an LMS-campaign would fit their profile either...

From the start the Z4 project was born for failure. Never understand that project. IIRC it was very expensive for what you got.

The article I read said they were weighing their options on engines, so the Judds may not be definite.

However it also pointed out that they now have 2 automatic entries for Le Mans in LMP2. So maybe another year of one of each?

WFR should be another potential 2010 entrant.

How come they have 2 automatic entries ?

I hope they stick with the Judd engine . We already have AM engines , and a couple of Judds would go down well .

Aston's customers are dropping like flies! There must be something just terrible about the level of customer support they give, or the way in which they work with their customers because there aren't many left...

Well , the other way of looking at it is , Aston are hardly going to supply Speedy with the latest spec engine , while their strutting their stuff . So, If you want to beat them , you may have to be a little differant .

By all accounts the Aston Martin LMP1 engine is a very expensive proposition - combine that with the likelihood that you'll always be a step or two behind the factory in terms of development, and the possible benefits of the wider community based development you get from a Judd package it all starts to fit together.

They should eligible for 4 invites, 2 per prototype class. (?)

Except it was the LMP2 car which won the Green X Challenge, which means 3 invites for that car. I assume the ACO may just give it to 2nd place in Green X or possibly third in LMP2 (Racing Box)?

If Speedy Sebah goes for all LMP1, will they buy a new Lola or convert the LMP2 car?

With Hexis wanting to run a DBR9 in GT1 next year, and Drayson moving to P1, I'd imagine the Aston GT2 program is pretty much dead. After the poor performance (and minimal improvement) it's shows over the past 2 years, I can't imagine anyone else picking them up. There is the JWA car, but who knows what's happened with that.
