I do think that having an undisputed lead driver such as Wurz will benefit the younger drivers immensely (Nakajima and Buemi specifically since Lapierre already has a good amount of Le Mans experience). While he doesn't have the stat sheet of someone like McNish, he's been around prototypes for a long time and has proven himself as a valuable developmental driver and racer. |

Mike believes that they will also test a more R18-like aero package instead of the current 908-inspired package. Quote:

Nice. I was wondering why toyota-motorsport.com wasn't updated at all.

R18 solution could just be a bigger or wider front nose cone. It's wise to test both versions to see if there is any gain with either configuration. I wonder what else they could take from the R18? Anything they see they can test and work around to make gains to their own car. Wurz said that this is just a basic aero package, and there's more to come. So obviously, applying the holes in the fenders, new aero designs will be coming.

I don't see how they couldn't make a wider nose cone. Apart of the crash structure or not. The whole front end could change. The openings behind the front fenders look like the DOME S102, but crude. That could change as well. I'm not saying it's definite, just a suggestion.

Cool video, shows their F1 cars and the TF110, then the TS020 as well. Amazed how he didn't know the track. He must not play Gran Turismo.

The 908 also initially used a front end like the old 908 where the air flowed into/through the front suspension that was abandoned after Sebring. It guess that it might depend on areo or cooling requirements. But both the Audi and Pug solutions were based on the '03 Bentley GTP cars, and it seems that Audi will stick with it (at least for now) with the R18 and that Toyota is interested in testing such a system.
I guess that the advantage with the Audi nose is that air flows above/below the front diffuser to increase downforce and have a more direct path to the sidepods, but the disadvantage is increased drag and potentially risking more debris getting into the radiator intakes (though Audi and Peugeot have/had removable screens, and even the closed Lolas did--I'd suspect that the TS030 might have something similar). Also, could the TS030 use the BHH just by changing louver panels--they seem to be detachable. |

In the aftermath of Peugeot's withdrawal, the revelation of the 'seriousness' of the Toyota programme is very welcome indeed. A huge welcome back to the pinnacle of sportscar racing from 10Tenths Motorsport Forum! |

On behalf of us all, I'd just like to say a huge thank you to Sam for his outstanding coverage of the launch and for taking the time to clarify queries and answer questions. Top man!

The panels above the wheels do look to be removable. They probably designed this purposely.

For the big holes that are mandated for this year. Found some videos- one FLAT out and another entering the pits- http://www.twitvid.com/DOR06

I don't see a removable panel for the rear fenders, only for the fronts. I suspect that the hole above the rear wheels, which is now covered with louvers, is not big enough. |

I noticed that as well. The car is yet finished and what were looking at is just it's 'opening act'. Gladly wait to see the development of it though. I've always taken an interest into the aero solutions these cars gain during their life.

If they can leave the pits on electric power, that'll save some fuel surely!
