Le Mans 2009 May Be Off For Me :( But Then Again..... :)
My holiday application form has been rejected by my school, and a new law has been passed which means I have no right to appeal. This is 3 weeks before the event. It will be my first Le Mans I've not been to since 1997.
I can't beleive it! And to think, someone has been allowed to go to the States in my class for 3 weeks! And my application for 3 days has been rejected. Thats it now, I can't go the next couple of years because of exams. I'm looking forward to Le Mans 2013! |

Still, we're talking to the dep. Head about turning it into an educational trip, and contacting our local MP. |

Make sure that before you see the deputy head you have a good reason for going, see if it could be worked in with some of your studies, the pit visit could be used as part of media studies, technology, mechanics and if you say that it is part of your future employment/study plans it may sway him to treat it as a field trip also use the costs already paid and no chance of refund. You could also use the studing green technology in modern motor racing all teachers love the enviromental angle.

I'd follow GT6's suggestion. For the last two years my son and daughter have travelled own with us and we chose to take them out on sick leave because, in my son's case his school would deny the leave as your's has.
Writing a report on the event and also using it for language studies could be good, don't give up too easily though....this is the big one ! |

If thats the case I would go now- if you cant get permission for time off, I would just go. Four years...The final decisions yours though, good luck with the school I hope they see things in your favour.

If the powers that be don't allowe you the three days but another person 3 weeks, there's clearly something fishy going on.
I'd go. As GT6 pointed out,the non refundable costs allready made is a valid point and if you call in sick, your school could indeed not believe it,but as long as they can't prove you weren't sick or went to Le Mans, you shouldn't have any problems... Good luck. |

I've never heard of applying for leave from a school. Is it a college or something?

My Dad sent a - shall we say forceful - letter to the memeber of staff that deals with this. I've received a phone call from her giving me special permission to go! |

I have to say that, as a 50-something parent, I find the notion of having to seek permission from a school, to take my child out during term-time wholly repugnant - bally bureaucratic nonsense....

Glad you had the supportive Dad on this one (not you Aysedasi lol). I personally wouldn't have made it a request - would have just said "I'm on holiday for so many days, I will be away on these dates..." - weather that be from yourself or signed from your parents. It was always fine like that when I was at school, but that was over 8 years ago now... |

But you are a middle class, supposedly responsible parent. The law is aimed elsewhere.
