MotoGP Race Moves to Avoid F1 Date Clash in Britain

Organisers of next year's British MotoGP race at Donington revealed on Tuesday that the event will be rescheduled following the decision to change the date of the British Formula One Grand Prix.

The news came after Formula One venue Silverstone said on Monday that they are confident the World Motorsport Council will on Friday confirm a change of date from July 4 to July 11.

The MotoGP event was due to be held on July 11 but is now set to be handed a date two weeks later than planned after organisers received an early tip-off about the decision to reschedule the British Grand Prix.

"We were notified it was going to be moved in good time and when we were told we looked at the options," a spokesman for the Donington circuit said. "There are all sorts of possibilities but July 25 is the favourite."

Donington are keen to avoid moving to the July 4 date vacated by the British Grand Prix because it clashes with the Euro 2004 final, the Wimbledon men's tennis final and an England versus New Zealand one day international.
