Who is David Thexton???
A Kiwi entrepreneur who had a joint venture with an Australian icon company to produce carbonated and non-carbonated fruit drinks under the Rio Beverages banner.
The Aussie icon and Mr Thexton sold out of the beverage company as recently as 6 weeks ago, to the Coca Cola Company of Atlanta... With the newfound realisation of business assets, it seems Mr Thexton is looking to fulfil a lifelong dream of being a Supercar driver, by purchasing the franchise and assets of Paragon Motorsport and operating a L2 touring car operation out of the Gold Coast/ Its no small move, Mr Thexton & his ex-wife, and kids are all moving to the Gold Coast on a full time basis, separate houses of course.. Apparently Mr Thexton is a rally driver of some repute in NZ, and this is where the need for speed has come from. Thanks to GTRMagic @ Conrod. Check this out as well. http://www.sharechat.co.nz/features/...e.php/a1ca2552 |

I wish the guy good luck - he's living his dream, something not all of us get to do. Mind, I still think he'll be well off the pace, but still ... Go get 'em Dave!

David did his first laps in the ex-Paragon Falcon yesterday at QR. May be returning today to do some more. Car is just black - no signwriting at all. Transporter looks the same.

So here's my question... how did David Thexton get permission to run the Paragon car?
I thought there were a limited number of testing days a team had.... Or did Paragon not use all those up this season?? Any idea whether Thexton was anywhere near the pace? |

Well I don't think Thexton will have the pace, but he certainly has the money. Let's hope he buys a BA off SBR and put's a young gun in it

It depends if the 107% rule is to be enforced in 2003 I suppose. If it isnt, then its not relevant ifhe's fast or not....

Good luck to him. This is what Touring Cars (or next year, silouette cars) are all about, private drivers going up against the big guns, under the current management that emphasis has been lost

As far as the test days go, only AVESCO and the team would know how many test days they (Paragon) had left or whether the new owner gets a clean sheet from 1st January. Would have to be covered by some AVESCO rule or all the teams would sell their teams to each other every off season to get some free testing - or would they?
If the new owner has purchased the car, but the franchise has not yet been transferred - do AVESCO care how many miles David does in the car. My spy didn't have his stopwatch, but he was having a go alright, and kept it out of the gravel traps too, not like some other "rally drivers" |

If its classed as a 'ride day' where the telemetry and data acquisition is turned off, I understood there were an unlimited number of those days available...
The rules of Supercar give the teams I think 7 days to advise them of a car & franchise ownership change, presumably punishable by death or at least a reduction in their appearance fees.... which could be worse.... |

Meh, new teams starting up in V8s and not yet registered can do what they like, and nothing seems to stop people from having a Sports Sedan in their shed
