Richy888 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Getting Started

Hi,

I'm sure this has been covered before but it my searches I couldn't uncover it.

I want to go racing but not at the start of the year as I want to get some testing in and need the car to be finished. Need to get my license as well. Just want to do 1 or 2 races towards the end of the year.

So what do I need to do. I've got the introduction to racing pack from the msa. Going to book up my ards test soon. What else do I need to do after this? I read about joining clubs but wasn't too clear.

Cheers,

Richard

That all depends on what you want to race... most race series run under the management of an organising club, ie: 750 or Castle Combe Racers Club, etc.. You normally need to join (and pay) the club that runs your series. You also need to register for the series you want to join which can vary from a few pounds to several hundred I believe. As a guide 750 is £40 membership plus £75 for the race series itself.

i'm sure chezza will be along shortly from the BARC SEC as she knows all thing dmn/tin tops.barc membership is a start then centre/racing membership either barc or barc sec ,but any recognised msa club is ok as i recall.the tin top sieries is a great way to start you saloon car racing as you can race with a modestly modified car that wont break the bank too much, but make no mistake motor racing aint cheap and you will run out of money fast unless you have just won the lotto....lol.but having said that it can be done.i hope you can play with the boys at some point this year as i'm sure you will love it,once bitten by the racing bug there aint no going back....have fun ..woody.

BARC S/E membership is £50, registration for tin tops is £25. Two races at each meeting. There are 9 scheduled for 2009, starting in March and going through to November. Visit www.barc.net and go to the "south eastern" centre section.

I'm obviously not up with current rules then. In my deffence it seems like a long time since i was that young! I'm sure i had to have a medical when i started, but it might have been for Kart Int rather than Race Natb.

You might need another one when you renew after you have turned 18 so I wouldn't bother.
The rule read something along the lines of; An applicant 18 or over must pass a medical before applying for their first licence following their 18th birthday. So if you have one before your 18th it reads as though you will need another one on your renewal after you are 18
