Ops naughty naughty! Mark Fowler was building one complete with Ric Wood engine but has abandoned the project and sold it all off. Don't know about a 2nd one.

Your pics have brought back memories, I (Simon Orr) drove the #5 white/purple Lancer which we had the spat at Mallory, did SRS from 91 - 94 when money and time allowed, great fun and a great crowd.
Fun racing the all the Sunbeams, Simon Light's Capri and Steve and Wes Moores Saab's.
Started with jeff Robinson (great bloke) at Riverside Racing in one of his black Lancers then he built a special one for me from the ground up that started of white and ended up with a purple front end (great car, poor driver!) Wheres the car now? Sold it to some guy in a service area near Cheltenham! dont even know if it raced again?

Cheers
Simon Orr

PS - Simon - Just got a B_ll_cking, not even a fine or an endorsement. Must have been because Im I nice bloke!

Simon

Did you sell it to a skinny fella with glasses? Alistair Lightfoot certainly owned it for a long time and then sold it to Simon Norris around 6 years ago. It's been rebuilt and has been waiting for a big power Evo engine for around 3 years.

Angela Hart used to race a Lotus Cortina when she was seeing Jon Woodward.

Yes it was a Mk2 I believe. Didn't John Newbold originially race one ? Maybe before SRS started though.

Yes that's the one. An old work mate used to have one. What a car it was either breaking down or bits were falling it off it.

I was talking about my mate's car not Frank's

Think i remember it being orange? Wasn't slow either, sometimes smoky!

The last time I saw that was probably 1984 or '85 in the Duckams series, when David Shead's Mk1 RS3100, Roger Newbould's Lotus Cortina and Derek Wileman's Mk3 3 3.0 were generally the cars to beat!!!

Chunterer you're not getting mixed up with the Roger Newbould from Rallycross are you. I thought his name was John Newbold. Same time as John Chambers in his Golf Mk1.

Does anyone remember a youngish guy (I think his name was Don Shead) who raced a Capri in the early/mid '80s who used to be quite successful and would do things like have his hair cut on the grid?
I know a bit of a rough link but remember watching him but can't remember his name!!!

Yup you're right, John Newbold it was!

Crikey, we're having fun remembering some of these old names! Just about remember Chamber's name. Of coursde the two Firenza's of Trevor Griffiths and Rob Walker (think Rob or a relative posts on here?) were frontrunners or how about the Rice brothers (John and ?) who pedalled Dolly Sprints, and there was a couple of quick 1275GT Minis too, can't recall their names off top of my head...

Quick get me' anorak!!

Pretty sure it was David Shead, I think he later cropped up in prodsaloons with a Sapphire Cossie? But there was a Don Shead in Historic GT's IIRC?

David's Capri was a fine car, usually quickest machine in the Duckhams days. Grids were massive and diverse as hell!

Sounds about right - my late father used to sponsor him and I'm sure I remember Dad shaving David's hair on the grid at Mallory!!

The only link I can think of was that there was a Shead that raced a Lister Jaguar in the early to mid '80s - maybe David's father? I remember him being a young guy.

I used to race against David Shead in the Blue Capri in my old Sunbeam Lotus back then, he had blue matching hair, his girlfriend also used to have the same hair colour and bikini and often be drapped over the car I raced against him at Brands in 1986 in the Bristol Street Motors Roadsaloon Car Trophy Race, and had my first ever win there and ride on the popemobile :'0)
I also raced with him in Prod saloons in my Peugeot, he had a red Saphirre Cossie and his Team wore Top Hat and tails as overalls
