Rydell drives Ferrari
ETCC --- April 10, 2001

Rickard Rydell will compete in the FIA World GT Championship this year. He will drive a Ferrari 550 Maranello that is prepared by the team Prodrive. Prodrive is also currently developing the new Touring Car racer for Volvo that will make its debut next year with Rydell. Even though that this reduces Rydell opportunities to compete in the STCC both Rydell and Volvo are positive to this deal. This makes Rydell able to practise on the tracks that he will race in next year with Volvo. Rydell will drive eight races in the GT Championship. In five of the races Alain Menu will be sharing the car with him and in the remaining three Peter Kox will take over from Menu. Prodrive will join the GT Championship at Silverstone on the 13:th may. According to Rydell the test drives for Volvo will remain the top priority for him. They will test during the summer - autumn and if everything goes ok they will join the ETCC next year. And except for Volvo another six manufacturers has shown interest for the ETCC.

I think it would be better for them to join the ETCC. A larger number of people around Europe would be able to see them racing instead of just you in the UK...

Rydell in a non Volvo car. That is a big shock. Last year was a first and now in a ferrari. It will be interesting to see how competitive he is in a GT car. I would have liked to see him back in the BTCC but I also like the ETCC so I will still be watching him. Good luck.
