I am not one for bagging a driver.
As I said before MS as a driver for abbility is great but for meathod I cant put up with the obvious show put on.The fact he wants to be known as the greatest ever and will go to any means to obtain his goal. The greatest disappointment is Rubans. He is knowingly standing by being MS's lap dog and allowing it to happen. He is good enough to be in any other team as leed driver yet he sits by and allows his name to be sullied. In my opinion he has no heart for F1 anymore and is only picking up his pay every week.Even if MS retires and Rubans is allowed to fight for the WDC it will mean nothing because history will show what has transpired. Its unfortunate but Rubans should hang his head in shame. The Grumpy1 Last edited by grumpy1; 11 Jun 2004 at 02:26. |

Ferrari haven't LET Rubens fight. In that sense, most of Michael's championships have been null and void IMO. He hasn't had to battle in 1995, 2001, 2002, 2004 (?) for his championships. I would like to see one year where TGF has to FIGHT his teammate for the title. I was hoping it would be this year after watching Rubens' performance in Suzuka.

It's encouraging to see how this trend is going to turn out

Back to the topic... Damon disappointed me in 1999, but I never went off his bandwagon. Go Damon, and go Jacques!

In 1997 I was firmly on the Panis bandwagon. I got off again pretty sharpish.
I agree that Fisi has been solid. Not bad. |

He's never had a package to match the early 1997 Prost/Mugen/Bridgestone either.

Montoya really impressed me when he arrived in 2001, his move on MS at Brazil made me wet my pants.
Since then, his star has waned. |

I am not one for Bandwagon jumping, if you like a driver, I think it is sad to jump off and diss him if he has bad year than cheer for whoever else is winning or showing promise. I mean some of my fav drivers have bad times yet I still hope for future glory. I like the drivers I like for whatever reason and cheer them on and if I see some new drivers coming along that excite my need for speed and driving skill I will hope they do good as well. As for big over hyped drivers that get alot of attention and bandwagon jumping on right away, I tend to dislike them and hope they do not so so good. Once they start earning their praise then I will be happy to see them scoring in the points.
So I can not say I have any doubts of my fav drivers...JPM, the Canadianv JV, Fisi, and I like that kimi too, also I am waiting to see how alonso come aong as well as Truli. I have no doubts for cheering on my drivers and if they have a bad year or bonehead mistake I hope they kick but in the next race... I love F1 |

Well, where do we start?
Alonso...getting touched up by Trulli...disappointing Ralf...joke, good car, bad driver Moan-to-ya...almost as big a joke - see above Fisichella...just going Coulthard...normal (ordinary) Raikkonnen...car bad, him not much better Bruni, Pantano, Baumgartner...shouldnt be there Klien...money speaks all languages except talent Massa...feet are quicker than his brain Panis...can't beat father time Da Matta..does'nt matter - back to Champ Car with the B Graders Sato...fast but needs his head to keep up The rest get a tick. |

I've never understood the point of slating so many drivers. It obviously doesn't count of much an achievement for those he supports, if everyone else is supposedly so bad! |

Yes, why is it that in F1 there seems to be a need to slate other drivers? Presumably to make yours look better, but as k-b says surely it's better to say driver b is superb, but my driver a is even better?!
Clearly deeks6 is keen to see an 8 car grid... |

BTW, about "knocking" the drivers - the thread was about who was disappointing, was'nt it? If you don't think those mentioned have been disappointing, make a case for it ... instead of just knocking the poster. |

Wrex, you ready to jump back on the Fisi wagon yet? If not, what will it take, given the machinery he's in?

Once again my point is proven.Rubans was all over MS but backed off.He was definatly faster than MS today but knew better than to challange the great one.
To prove the point he set the fastest lap 1 lap from the finish.Funny way to say up yours. The Grumpy1 Last edited by grumpy1; 14 Jun 2004 at 01:39. |

Yes, RB was nipping at Michael's heels, but when RB ducked into the pits at then end of his 2nd stint. Michael started cracking out laps in the :13.6 range which was way faster than RB was going at the time.
Besides, this thread (I thought) was about drivers we formerly favored but now do not rather than one more take a swipe at Ferrari/Michael thread?? |

John I am not taking a swipe at either MS or Ferrari but rather at the system that allows this to happen.Mr Mosley brings up all these rule changes but fails to enforce the ones he has.Rubans was called in to prevent to many officals figuring out what was happening.
The fastest lap was set when it was so MS had no chance of beating it.Why else would he go so fast with a lap to go and noone close enough to challange him and no hope of beating Ralf? I have nothing against MS.He is one of the best(I've said that before)but my objection is with the meathods used for him to be called the greatest ever. The Grummpy1 |

Well, we are way off topic now, but we do not know what variables there were that resulted in RB setting fastest lap so late: good set of tires, tire condition and relative fuel load combined with a clear track, who knows?? Also, RB is a good driver, but inconsistent (imho). He may have just had a really good lap. I would be curious to track the positioning of the two during the race and the lap times set lap by lap.
However, Number Two drivers have almost always been Number Two and with a few exceptions, knew they were not there to upset the status quo. |

I'm having serious doubts about Jaques V. I mean, he's been absolutely nowhere this year.

Quote:"I have nothing against MS." Serious?!
RB wasn't called in because of your ridiculous claim that "to prevent to many officals figuring out what was happening." , it's a simple scheduled stop. In case you did not notice, RB pit just a lap earlier despite MS making his first pitstop a few seconds longer than RB (ooh..so Ferrari tried to screw MS's fuel load? ), and both drivers made their 2nd stop at about the same time as the 3-stoppers make their final stop... So essentially, both Ferraris have already stretched their fuel/tyres strategy. RB was quicker in the laps than MS partly because of a lighter fuel load plus he is getting to his pitstop...MS made a blinding in-lap which showed that MS had more than enough pace should the need arises. Your assumption of Ruben's fastest lap is flawed. Firstly, it's common practice of MS to slow dramatically on his final few laps...judging it nicely to bring home the car just in front of Ralf. And RB is merely trying to push to close the gap to Ralf until the finish..well, it sure beats the practice of some other drivers who likes to "give up" when they see no hope Anyway, to quote John"Well, we are way off topic now". to turn every thread into a taint-MS-Ferrari session is pretty useful if it's not done every time |
