Panther To The Back Of The Pack!

Unbelievable!

Check this out! -

During post-qualifying inspection, both Panther cars were found in technical violation. The teams were fined, and their times were disqualified.

Indyracing.com reported a statement from the team:

“Panther Racing qualified for the Chevy 500 in race cars that had passed technical inspection o_n two occasions Friday -- prior to the first practice and again as the car was rolled o_nto the qualifying grid. Unfortunately, the same cars that passed the previous technical inspections did not pass the post-qualification technical inspection."

“We are disappointed in the result, but we are fully supportive of the IndyCar technical inspection staff, rules and rulings. It is Panther Racing’s belief that aggressive technical inspections and rules help keep the playing field even for all teams. We are confident that the rules are and will continue to be enforced equally across all teams."

“Panther Racing is committed to winning races in the IndyCar Series and it is our desire to do so with cars that fit within every rule and regulation of the IndyCar Series.”The Chevy 500 will air tomorrow o_n ABC at 12:30 p.m. (EDT).

They will be starting at the back of the pack. Incredible!

What's there to say? They probably wandered into a grey area and they got caught.

Clearly an oversight, rather than any attempt to cheat.

Taking advantage of a potential grey area is not necessarily cheating.

Of course it could have just be an oversight, but at the same time it's not like they would admit to anything else anyway so we could probably sit here and discuss it until end of time and still not know what really happened.

And Franchitti has been moved down to the back as well , he qualified 8th or 9th or something but now is listed to start 19th , not sure what the problem is there ?

Geez, I guess the life of a moderator isn't all glamorous!

I can't help but wonder if Scheckter and Bell havn't been getting away with something all season. Both have been blindingly quick at times, especially Scheckter, and far quicker than any of the other Chevies out there all season.

Panther said the cars passed two inspections that day before getting caught the third time. So it was well hidden, whether intentional or not.

What do you think?hrug:

If they've been getting away with something, it sure hasn't shown up in their results, my friend.

Man, that team must have a curse put on them this year.

ps...I haven't posted in a while. I like the new "smileycoms"

They were caught cheating. It was flagrant. I will post a tech discussion after a bit of time to let you know why they passed inspection twice but didn't pass post qual inspection. It was cheating plain and simple.

This was in the IndyStar. It concerns how other teams have felt about Panther.

[But there were rival team officials happy to see the two-time league champion caught. They think Panther has been skirting the rules for years.

"When you get caught cheating, it throws everything up in the air for question," Eddie Cheever Jr. said.]

Is it true, and is Eddie bringing in to question Hornish's 2 championships with the team? hrug:

I did hear stories during the Hornish era, but how true they were I've no idea.

The cars have changed since then though - would something which would be a beneficial cheat on the current cars have had any effect on the ones Sam took titles in?

Well Hornish was incredible consistent in the championship years but failed to win on an often basis, and this year Helio has had the better of him. And he does tend to struggle when the car isn't working.

But I sure hope his talent of him and Panther isn't questioned.

You wouldn't think I was a Hornish fan would you!
