2012 Australian Sports & GT Championships
We're into 2012 and the Xmas/New Year period has kept things quiet. Last year the AGT press release and a separate comment quoted elsewhere alluded to the Nissan GT-R GT3 - "claim they are expecting to see several new cars enter the championship in 2012, including the likes of the ... Nissan GT-R".
Found this today: http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1...dubai-24-hours and have to ask - are there any rumour file updates on these coming here for 2012? Klark Quinn quoted that Homebush was his last race in the Mosler, and what are Tony's plans??? |

It was posted in the B12 that Tony had brought a Ferrari 458, havent heard anything about that.
Slightly OT but worth asking in this thread-anyone know if ONE HD will be showing the Daytona 24hrs like they did last year? With the 50th year of the race there is a bumper entrylist, should be a good race. |

The entry list is phenomenal - GT in particular. Searching their site reveals nothing. Event coverage isn't listed under motorsport content, or within any of their guides - which is a shame. I'll be seeking coverage elsewhere. /OT Last edited by R4z3rw33n; 8 Jan 2012 at 09:04. |

Tony wants to race a Nissan.
He said so here in this article back in September. Quote:

If this week's Auto Fiction is to be believed, it seems that the Quinn Question has been answered. Ferrari 458 for 2012 and McLaren for 2013 for TQ, and a Porsche Cup R for KQ.
Rats. Not good enough at ESP to push him/them into the Nismo R35 GT3. My humble Nissan blood just lost a little pressure. |

Is the Cup R for Klark the same car they ran at the 12 Hour?

Im guessing it would be the same car but with upgrades, why would you buy a brand new car if you could just upgrade the old one?
Cant wait to see the McLaren, one wonders if the sale of VIP would preclude the Quinns running in the famous black and yellow livery? |

So the Quinns have $$$ and more cars they can poke a stick at, but can't enter a car in the B12HR.
I thought when Quinn took the reigns we might have seen some of the politics go away. Status Quo it seems. However, excited to see another 458 in the championship. Shame the Mosler is gone, its a great car, the Cup R is pretty boring. |

Speaking of Carrera Cup... it seems Mr Bates has achieved a switch to that class.. according to Mr Pattinson's graphic representation below...
There seem to be quite a few cars in that series without pilots at the minute, and maybe a couple of pilots now without cars.. It will be alright on the night, it always is |

Yeah, so great that no one wants them, they're cheaters, don't fit into any regs and they manage to kill taxi engines with monotonous regularity. Nice... |

the only thing you can level against them is that they missed the boat to be homologated for GT3 (as in the goal posts moved). to say they don't fit the regs shows a lack of understanding of what the regs were and are. for example, how is the Mossler any different from the Ascari (that is homologated)? Don't get me wrong, I am no Mossler lover, that does not mean however, you can call them cheats. |

Exact numbers are unknown but its safe to say that there are more Mosler roadcars then Ascari ever built so to say that it isnt a true roadcar is garbage. The main reason the Mosler was never homologated was due to politics involving rival manufacturers who didnt want to be beaten by a specialist manufacturer who built a cheaper car.
BTW the Mosler that ran B24 with Martin Short had a 5.7L LS? engine and the Mosler GT3 racers these days run the 7L LS7 which you can also have in the Mosler roadcar, the specs seem to change from individual car to car (both road and race) which doesnt really help sort out any confusion. GT racing is all about variety, having a grid full of one car is boring especially if the majority of those cars are Porsches. If you want that go watch Carrera Cup. One of the best parts of GT racing is all the different cars (GT3 is fantastic in this regard with at least a dozen different cars). |

No. Its a GTS/GT1 class machine, so good luck trying to find somewhere to race it here in Australia. Although it didnt stop Mark Coffey running the Italtechnica 550 in Nations Cup and that was a GTS class racer in the ALMS albeit severely handicapped when it raced downunder.
