Remember this is just GT, ALMS, LMES and Le Mans drivers. North Americans can also nominate Grand Am drivers! Only name drivers for poor driving and not personal attacks! I thought I better mention that before this thread goes wild!

Tracy Krohn. What the heck was he doing in a Lamborghini on the same track as the Corvettes?? Oh yeah he owned the team.

Also a number of funded drivers in Grand Am. Dangerous mobile chicanes.

Nicolas Springer in FIA GT! Having won the FIA GT championship with Julian Bailey. Lister announched that JCW would have Springer as his teammate to defend the title! They duly lost!

Tracy Krohn just recently won a race in a DP...arguably one of the hardest series to win a race in these days.

Now Bob ward...wowzas!!

No thats incorrect.

JCW and Bailey won the tile in 2000. In 2001 JCW was partnered with Coronel (Mike Jordan at Nurburgring), Bailey with Springer. Lister did not retain the title in 2001, so applying your logic Tom Coronel aint no good

JCW and Springer were partners in 2002, and but for JCWs collision with Piccini early on at Donington they would have been champions that yr. Instead had to make do with joint 3rd in chamionship. Still got 3 wins though. Joint 3rd and 3 wins makes someone reasonably competent. Plenty worse drivers in FIA GT than Nic Springer

Did Andrea DeCesaris ever drive a sportscar?

208 grandprix without a win and only one fastest lap

Love the guy but man, those are some bad numbers!

here's a humourous link, F1 related but it does mention Phillipe Alliot. And our man Decesaris.

Philippe Alliot was a decent sportscar pilot though.

In terms of some of the other names - sportscar racing is probably the last bastion of the gentleman driver - where the wealthy amateur can live his dream. Without them a lot of these cars simply wouldn't be out there.

Not so much the case these days though KB. Sportscar racing is becoming more and more professional, look at FIA GT grids for example. I think you will find more professional drivers in that series than amatuers these days. Series like British GT/Britcar sure, and perhaps some of the runners in the LMES, but even in sportscar racing the gentleman driver is slowly dying out at the moment. IMO.

I confess I'm struggling to identify a worst sportscar driver. I always used to look through the List des Engages for Le Mans and see who the slowest qualifier was - but that doesn't mean much as some gentleman drivers don't exactly get a fair share of the qually time on Wednesday and Thursday!

I guess it depends on whether we're talking about consistently poor driving or just the odd crass manoevre. Strangely, the only thing that comes to mind for me is the aforementioned Julian Bailey in the Nissan at Le Mans in 1989 (I think), when he charged like a madman in the opening laps and punted off John Nielsen at Mulsanne Corner.

I also loved the footage from 1989 of Johnny Dumfries trying to get his wounded Toyota back in the fray when it had mucho damage and a camera wrapped around it. Ian Titchmarsh's comment at the time was priceless - "Last year's winner, this year's mechanic...". (Not that I'd suggest that Johnny was the worst driver......).

On the subject of Nicolaus Springer, he and JCW may have scored three wins, but it was painful and embarrassing to see Lister basically putting Springer in the car for the shortest stint possible in the middle of the race, and all too often watching JCW then have to try to claw back the advantage he had built up in the first stint and which Springer had then thrown away.

I'm usually loath to enter into these ones, but for the crime of demolishing a Ferrari 250LM at Goodwood, can I nominate Juan Barazi?

Really far more money than ability, as evidenced by his effort before my very eyes at Arnage this year in the 33 Courage.

All right - others came to grief at Arnage as usual, most notably even an Audi, but... oh, that poor 250LM.

I dont think Barazi is a bad driver at all. He did good with the Porsche 917K during last years CER season , and thats no car wich is known to be easy to drive

Milka Duno is pretty slow, but Jean-Pierre Frey was a mack daddy of slowness in F3000 and I don't remember him being quicker in the Argo.

I've heard a lot of criticism of Milka Duno, but just how slow is she, compared to, say, Andy Wallace in the Howard-BOSS Crawford? And I mean hard facts, numbers.

One of the poorest pieces of driving that I have ever seen on a closed circuit came from none other than Stirling Moss. Aside from that, I'd hate to say who is the worst driver, as I am sure that they are all more capable than I am.

Looking back at the Six Hours of Watkins Glen, Duno was turning around 1:54s while Wallace was turning 1:50s right after her. She was running at about 104% of his times. In mph that would be about 4mph (or 6.4kph) difference, which at the Glen would mean it would take Andy about twenty six laps or forty-eight minutes to lap her.
