The Peugeot's are both down into the 2:03's in second free practice, almost 3 seconds clear of the quickest petrol P1 (#13 Courage).

To be honest 3 seconds is a bit less than I was expecting around Spa - was it the usual story of Peugeot not showing their true pace and Courage winding up the boost and slapping on really soft tyres - or is there something in the offing here?

Well, by the end of the second Free Practice the #8 is almost 4 seconds quicker than the quickest petrol P1 (2.02.371 vs a 2.06.156 Mucke lap in the Charouz Lola).
I haven't quite grasped the effects of the circuit changes on lap times, but, for what it's worth, the #17 Pesca turned the fastest race lap last year in 2.06.687 (last years qualifying times are, of course, completely meaningless). None of the other P1's went sub 2:08 in the race last year. |

Michael Vergers has turned a 2:06.816 in the #32 Zytek, 8th quickest overall and just 7ths off Shimoda's quickest lap in it's big brother. Very impressive!

Qualifying Times
The Peugeot's failed to break 2 minutes, but just take a look at the petrol scrap behind. Five different marques (all in the 2:04's) occupying the next five places seperated by less than 7 tenths, incredible! |

Obviously conditions may be different but the Orecas GT1 pole would have put it second on the grid in the Spa 24 hours by less than 2 tenths behind the Corvette.

And the difference is that the LMS cars are not being allowed to cross the white lines on the exit of Bus Stop or La Source - or cut the corner at the top of Eau Rouge

Bit of a shame the Pugs are so quick again - would have been fantastic to have the Mucke Lola P1, Shimoda Zytek P2 etc....would be a great battle for the podium. Oh well, its a battle for 3rd spot now I guess!
Should think Mucke, Johansson and Boullion will be interesting through Eau Rouge! Perhaps the Pugs could do us a favour and take each other out!!! |

P1 pole has been around 2.05 for the past TWO seasons, they haven't really pushed on. A factory petrol should be in the 2.02 at the very least, P2 pole was 2.06, we all know the Penske Porsches could go 2 seconds quicker based on their ALMS performances, so that would put P2 pole under the current petrol P1 pole. Peugeot has the complete package, you'd be naive to think it's all du to a power advantage. What we need is the likes of Lola and Oreca to have some factory money behind their customer cars. Been chatting to a driver friend of mine today who's been racing in LMGT2 all season. He calls the Peugeots "The Ghosts". You don't see them coming, you don't hear them coming, they make no noise as they pass by and then just disappear!

Guess I'll put my hopes for dutch honours on the newly formed dutch team(forgot the name) which'll be running an RS Spyder for the next season then.
Meanwhile,we'll be enjoying a beautifull gagle of topclass thoroughbreads tomorrow. We'll leave early to make it about an hour before the start. I can't wait! Such a diverse and big grid at Spa is allways a treat. |

That would be “VM Motorsport by Equipe Verschuur” . We were supposed to here who the other Spyder team was in early Aug. but I guess we will have to wait a little longer.

That's the team HORNDAWG. Any knowledge of possible drivers?
Another question for you lads. During the 10/10ths thread about the 24hrs of Spa,there was a very handy link to a realtime weatherradar. A handy site to have "homestayers" updating you for when rain is about to fall. During the 24hrs,when I was forced to stay home,I was able to predict rain for my friends at the race,to within half an hour... Somebody still know this link? |
