save grass roots motorsport
there are plans to put 6,000 homes on the site of North Weald airfield, currently north weald is home to grass roots drag racing and sprinting, this is now under threat, it may not be the best venue around but it is a venue and its cheap to put on an event ther so it produces low entry costs, please support the venue by fighting these plans at www.northwealdairfield.org

Two Jags wants houses
The major stumbling block to the proposed rescue plan will undoubtedly be John Prescott's desire to build more affordable housing in the South East. The North Weald site will be considered as 'brown-field' and thus will tick two boxes on the New Labour/New Policy Sheet.
I've made a note of the website and I will give it my full support, after all we like to take on the school bullies and put them in their place! |

I am looking into buying a house at the moment and there is no way I can afford to buy at the moment so I welcome the building of cheaper housing.
However, if we loose North Weald that leaves very few, if not no affordable speed venues in the area. The motorclub I belong to is stuggling enough with venues, we don't need to loose another one. |

ok we all have to live somewhere, but there's plenty of unused industrial land around that could be used without either building on farmland or redeveloping something already being used, unfortunatly it seems that very few of these new housing estates actually provide cheap affordable housing, afterall why would a developer sell houses for £60k when they can get £150 plus.

And if they did sell at 60k you can be damned sure that they'll be turned around pretty quickly just for a healthy profit, then the prices are back to 'normal' - all that's happened is a few people have made a chunk of money. Hmm, that sounds like modern Britain...

A young chap that used to work with me saw a large bulding development of around 200 houses with prices starting from £120,000 and he asked me if I would go along with him to have a look. When he went in to the office and asked if he could take a look at the 120k houses the reply was, 'O'h that
one has been sold'. So cheap housing, dream on! |

The general rule with house building is 1/3 for the cost of the land, 1/3 for the cost of building and 1/3 profit, even more if the land is aquired cheaply throught the government. There is no such thing as cheap housing, the developers will make a fortune. I'm all for making a profit but not at the expense of our sport

save grass roots motorsport
Listen everyone, lets get some facts straight;
a] we need North Weald for grass roots motorsport as it is an important sprint venue, so everyone must lobby Two Jags and the Council. b] Nowadays, developers have to provide approx 30% social housing on any housing development, so any of you who buy a new house on a new estate will find they have council house tenants on it as well, who pay very little in rent and have the same house to live in that you and I pay loads of mortgage for! c] people will very rarely buy houses on Brownfield sites, that is why only housing associations build houses and flats on them. North Weald will end up having housing ranging from 3-5 bedroom houses etc. I have worked for 33 years now in the construction industry, much of it in the local authority environment, and trust me, strokes are pulled and wheeling and dealing goes on with Councils; Never heard of a section 106 agreement? It is a legal way for the Council to accept a bribe for giving planning permission ! Don't believe me? ask me at the next TR and C meeting and I will expound. |

Well the new housing estate behind ours has none of the "social housing" you speak of... Just an load of houses starting @130k and going on to around 160k.. |

A bit off topic but what type of house can you build for £130-£160K let alone £60K, I don't think I could get a decent sized garage built for £60K

Hi Eric, got that Escort finished for the TR and C series yet?
I live round the corner from you, and you can get a 1 or 2 bedroom flat for £130k in Sicdup or Bexleyheath area. My garage(21ft deep X 25ft wide cost me £10k to build. You can back the trailer in, with car and drop the roller shutter! easy peasy! Seriously guys, doesn't matter where we live, the do-gooders and green brigade want to stop us playing, so we have to play the environmental rules and learn to play politics with these people. The MSA should be leading these protests to save venues ( I know, don't hold your breath), but it will be down to us. Think about this, fewer venues, less places to play, people give up Motorsport, our cars are suddenly worth less! So please support the Save North Weald campaign. I learned to sprint there, in 1983, as my eldest son will in the next year. Many sprinters in the South East have gone o nto race. You can tell which ones on the grid. Their starting techniques are superior to everyone else |

Hi,
In Northern Ireland we've all but lost Nutts Corner as a venue because of noise (thankfully house prices aren't completely mental here yet), it's a real pity because it's a real nice tight circuit and one I like a lot. I think one of the problems at Nutts corner was that the event organisers woke up very late to the noise issue. For many years they did little or no noise testing and then finally last year they started to in force the limits it was rather like bolting the door after the horse has long since disappeared over the horizon. I’m certainly not suggesting that the problem is all of our own making but those cars excluded for noise at the first Sprint after they tightened down on it weren’t even close to passing. In this day and age I certainly believe that it should be possible to make relatively quite cars that are still very fast indeed. Just one more engineering challenge to overcome. Tim |

Me Tim with Dtype, Eric is my uncle with the Escort/s. Did you build the garage yourself for that price? I wan't to build a workshop at my wife's stables, she thinks it will be a hay barn. |

As far as 2 jags and his cronies are concerned, motosport is of no importance, especially grass roots. Because everyone in power knows that there is on Formula One, there is no other motorsport. Nobody other than Bernie, Max, and ten team owners plus a few hangers on, are employed in motosport, and it only earns about a fiver a year. Not that their mis-informed or anything.
I once looked at a website, can't remember the URL, but it showed all of the circuits in the UK, past and present, and in some cases, what they're like now. Save Gransden Lodge! That's what I say. Was going to be the home of the British Grand Prix, but some blokes over at Silverstone put up more crates of brown ale, and a few more ounces of shag for the pipe smokers. Joking aside. Yes, SAVE NORTH WEALD. Where's Gary Numan going to land his collection of WW2 planes? Rob. |
