Following this logic, we need to place chicanes in Indyanápolis, Talladega, Daytona... To be race driver, it is necessary courage! Fear is failure!

That's a really impressive track! I can see champcars racing there really well-length of the track isn't really a big issue for them! In my home city I have made a track but coz of the lack of suitable roads for an exciting circuit it is about 6.5 miles long with a 1.9 mile straight! I may post it sometime!
Again though-great track! |

Nice track 'althoffj' and welcome to the My Tracks forum! I think the speed down to the first hairpin would be dangerously exciting, and it would see some pretty big crashes. I expect you'd have to make some kind of big run off area up there, is there any space for that at all?

I like the layout, although that second hairpin does look a bit out of place.
Cosmicpanda, given the physics of the situation, chicanes seem to lead to more accidents at that given place than normally occurred on the pre-existing straight, corner, etc. For instance, I'm not sure there's been a "clean' first lap of the Italian Grand Prix at Monza since 1971 (The chicanes were installed for the 1972 season.). One big thing to remember is that fatalities in past decades usually had a lot more to do with the barriers and car construction than the track configuration. Simply put, it's a moot point to attempt to protect the driver at 150+mph when a hard impact at just 80-100-mph will likely have severe consequences. Also, chicanes with those old cars, especially those with drum brakes, would have been a VERY BAD IDEA. Last edited by Purist; 25 May 2006 at 14:28. |

race = speed
chicane = brake... death to the chicanes! I write a weekly column in a website in Brazil, and this: http://www.bestlap.com.br/le_noticia...&modalidade=F1 I criticize the chicanes vehemently. (in portuguese...) |

All the Brazilians waited the first victory of Ayrton with the Williams. It was chocking. Brazil stopped. The hero was buried with would honor of head of State. I, particularly, was 15 days without going to the school, much badly. I felt as to lose somebody of the family.

I agree althoffj, the affects of his death live with me to this day. We should stop talking about it in here though, the people in charge would not like it. |
