Pit Boards

Kev and I were volunteeered to run the pit boards for MaxiJazz Racing's 4 cars today.

Now that was fun

I didn't realise how fast the cars come past that wall and how close. I get expecting my board to be smashed by a mirror as some were right on the grass.

Thanks team

Hi Les,
I had the chance to do the pit board for Chris Y at Castle Combe, it was the most fun I have had at a track in a long time!

Any one have any interesting tales to tale regarding pit boards?

The only strange thing about when I did it, was that the board belonged to my mate Rick (Car42) and it had his name on it in big yellow letters, so Chris was Rick for a day.

The worst bit was that Rae said do it in the order AWRR - Andy at the top, Rae at the bottom and the other two took a bit of working out. I am not 100% sure we got them right!!!!! I am sure we ended up with Westie in the 3rd slot and Welham 2nd slot which turned out to be right (Damon Welham and Robert West). It was more luck than judgement.

Poor old Andy Neate was in 5th place today and took Paddock too fast and result - roll and badly damaged car. Rae and Westie had problems but Westie enjoyed every minute - had a marvellous tussle with Clive Turner. Damon came 8th - had a good drive.

Les, you must be talking about the Fiesta race?

I was the Observer at post 7, bottom of Graham Hill. Wish I had know you were there, I would have popped over for tea!

so did you 'observe' the Porsche incident. I saw 2 ambulances go up but didn't see them come back.
Excellent days racing and when the sun came out it was lovely.

Well I didn't see the accident but did see the aftermath. One car was totally destroyed and seems to have spun into the armco rearwards. The driver was taken to the medical centre as he lost consiousness straight after the accident, but was ok later I heard. The cars went back up the track on low loaders and out through the ambulance gate at Paddock.

Thanks for the info. Was it a good race after that because we went during the break?

Pit Boards at Cadwell...

During testing at Cadwell, pit boards are hung out at the top of the mountain rather than the pit wall.

One of my Caterham team mates came flying up there on the grass and all the mechanics bar his own managed to whip their boards out of the way...
His mechanic caught the pit board on the roll bar, spraining his thumb as it flew off into the wild blue yonder.

Mechanic went got another pit board.

Two laps after he returns, same nearly happens again, mechanic gets the hump and next time past, attempts to throw pit board into cockpit of Caterham...

There you go. A pitboard tale.
