You can break and steer on tarmac. On grass you are a passenger. Result of the cars wiggle would be the same if there still would be gras. What we need is a buffer that lets cars slide on it like concrete or armco and not bounces the car back like tirebarriers, but absorbs more energy in a linear way.

They are secured into pavement via metal bars, at least have them in place for race week. Tire walls through Porsche Curves wld send debris back onto the track. Concrete walls bounce cars out, as do SAFER barriers but at least with SAFER barriers not as much G force transferred to the driver.

Not really but I believe the section where Jan hit was part of the private track section so the problem of the SAFER barrier being portable isn't a problem. I do say that the private sections does need SAFER barriers. I'm not too worried about the public sections as that is mainly guardrail/armco and would give some in a crash.

That's pretty amazing walking away without a scratch after going into a wall around 200km/h.

Sadly it looks like Toyota have been caught with their pants well and truely down .
I think all they can do is their thing and see what falls out . |

What's the limit on sets of tires for the race?
Trussers said 7 sets (plus 4 jokers for punctures). I assume that is for practice/qualy. |

Rewound the Eurosport natural sounds stream, where it cuts to the Corvette garage.
Dan Binks says "stuck at 70%". It shows Corvette from the wall mounted camera, then back to the garage. Unidentified voice: "we're a long way from that yet" before it shows a replay and the car in the wall. Some raised voices mentioning data, unfortunately a car goes past masking what else is being said, then guy in black shirt to Dan Binks "that's bullshit". |
