well the thumbs down in banger racing means 'im injured and need medical attention'....by the way the driver got out and ran to the marshal post.....unless there was a majical little pixie in there that cured his broken leg i doubt he needed medical attention!!!

without knowing the history of the clip its hard to say, the marshal should have yellow flagged it because the driver could have been injured, but had the driver cried wolf too many times before and wanted the race stopped for other reasons?? team mates, to get himself back in etc....who knows!!!

Best temper tantrum I've seen since my niece was 2 years old I'm disappointed by the lack of helmet throwing though so he loses points for that.

I suspect we have few banger racing specialists here and without any context I'm not sure what you expect anyone to say? Bloke got hit a few times, waved his hands a lot then got out of the car and behaved like a plank...

If you're just trying to stir up trouble, could you do it elsewhere? It's New Years Day and I'm a bit too tired to Mod effectively!

the flag throwing was 1st class so i reckon he gets points for that but you are right Piglet a good bit of helmet throwing is mandatory for any driver's tantrum, it is even funnier if it happens in pitlane and almost hits the head scroot

I suspect by the marshals reaction that this particular chappy is well known to the marshals, and that they had it fully in hand.

Let the Drivers drive, and leave the Marshalling to the Marshals. It is what we dont get paid for after all...

no idea what the driver was after???
but it's a trip up to race control for him

yeah helmet throwing is mandatory and right in front if the MSA official even better...

lets all have a great new season on the bank, and lets be careful out there....cue the music

I believe in the 'magical little pixie' theory, ever since I saw John Bright extract himself from a Z shaped F3 chassis and leap over the Druids tyre wall before collapsing in agony with what turned out to be badly broken leg!

Sorry I wasn't trying to stir trouble, just curious as to the lack of overalls and helmet, and aso does a red flag not have to come from race control / coc in banger racing the same as in circuit racing.

Believe me Banger Racing is completely a law unto itself !!!

Or more likely an absence of law unto itself.

Looks about par for the course. Driver makes a mess, tries to con the marshal by making the signal for 'injured' and when he doesn't fall for it it's the marshal's fault. Meanwhile said driver makes a tit of himself and puts everyone in danger. I presume he's well on the way to Touring Cars by now.

Banger racing (and all other short circuit racing) is not regulated to the same levels as circuit racing.

Some positive improvements have been made, but safety standards are still low. Banger racing can never be 'safe' - by its very type of car and preparation it's a very risky thing to drive at speed, let alone deliberately contact other cars.

The marshal closest to a stranded banger driver will be trying to get a thumbs up from the driver - the drivers accept they may be left where they are for the remainder of a race and they should ensure they stay belted and hold on to everything that's valuable to them ( ).

If the driver is not happy for any reason and gives a thumbs down or the marshal is unhappy with driver condition (I've seen drivers with broken arms/legs give a thumbs up (with other hand!) because their mate/teammates are going to win the race) they will signal race control with a raised yellow flag (don't even ask about radio contact!) who will either ignore it as they can see better (from 1/8 mile away) or throw a caution or red. The marshal on scene will not go red on their own decision.

If a driver (like in the clip) gives a thumbs down and gets the race stopped - that driver is not allowed to take the restart and his racer mates will know he had the race stopped (and may discuss this further with him).

Nice explanation DS - takes me back to the Frank Roberts days, having fun with bangers and stock cars before they came under MSA Rule ( and bangers never have!).
