Tomorrow's Autosport says Tambay has signed with Scuderia Cavallino and they are talkign to Arnoux.

Wow.

Ooops. It's too long, it'd get lost. And it is too important!

(besides thread's don't get that long in F1, they have normally had to be closed by then )

Tambay was cr4p when he drove sportscars for TWR in '89 IMO. The most noteworthy thing he did was to swerve blatantly across the track exiting the Peralta (spelling? that famous banked 180 at Mexico City)and caused Antoine Salamin to have the mother of all shunts.

They're both in their twilight racing years, but I certainly welcome them both back to sportscars. Good to have some household names. My understanding was always that Tambay was very highly regarded at TWR. Certainly Tom spoke well of him at Le Mans in 89.

And, let's face it, if you have a list which reads, say: Fabrizio Gollin, Lilian Bryner, Rene Arnoux, Niko Wieth, Stefano Livio, Patrick Tambay, Luca Cappellari - which names are you going to recognise?

21 years ago they were teammates in F1, now teammates in GT? That's great! Next, we'll read that De Cesaris & Giacomelli are teammates at the Alfa touring car squad....

racingdad has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
I worked with Patrick Tambay on his first forray into Paris-Dakar - it was enlightning just how good an 'average' F1 driver is.

On his first ever outing in a 4wd car off road in a test session he totally eclipsed the very fast regulars, and he was unfortunate that his first attempt coincided with Peugeot coming in and upping the ante technologically - believe me he was megga - if ever I had any thoughts about how good I might have been he put them firmly to bed.

I will be delighted to see this witty urbane intelligent driver out on the track again
