I think that Hurley Engineering in Ely has just recently rebuilt a Toms spec chassis for Monoposto.

He used to stencil his initials as a connected MB then a separate O.

If there's any chance to be reacquainted with any of the work I did I'd certainly be keen to see it! I used to do stuff like gearshift, pedals, the airbox, some minor suspension bits, radiators, that sort of thing.

I'd also love to see any of the chassis again one day especially if any are still around in the UK. I'm specifically referring to the 036 type. I doubt the 035 will be kicking around now.

I've got some pictures of the very first 035 type which was the first serious car I worked on after the spec-formula F Toyota update. I'll dig them out to post when I get a moment.
I'll have a look.

Hurley Eng has been working on a Toms Toyota Super Formula chassis, apparently from Spanish F3.

Robin Dawe has been racing a Toms in Monoposto - its an 036 as far as I know...

Andrew, that would be magnificent, I was mainly involved with chassis design, systems, but also engine parts occasionally (mostly installation instead of internals).

The Spanish car is perhaps the Formula Toyota super cup car? I had a hand in that, it was loosely based on the F3 tub. I did a completely hand drawn parts catalogue for that!

I've seen pictures of 036 chassis in the ARP championship for historic cars, maybe the one in monoposto is the same one?

My memory is a little cloudy but the last person I remember owning the cars from the UK was Ray Rowan? I think he originally purchased the chassis and drawings.

The Super Toyota is no Super Formula car.

It was used in a spec-series which later turned into Spanish F3 in 2001.

IIRC it was ok but a bit bulky and old-fashioned looking.

The series took off when GT Sport switched to Dallara F300 chassis.

Agree completely! If it's the chassis I'm thinking of it's a cost down tub from the F3, with aluminium wings?

Yeah, was fairly nasty but I was going to refrain from saying it! Well built but isn't going to be competitive in any sort of open class racing.

Race engineer & driver in perfect harmony.

Dermot advises Andy Dickens at Spa. Toyota Super Formula, Monoposto race 2003. I think John (Miller) might have been on the grid as well.

I do remember that car. I think Dermot bought and sold it several times to various people.

Andy Dickens had a red 036 later, I think, which was then sold to Larry Jerram-Croft. I think he sold to a chap in France.

That's the car we called Formula Toyota Super Cup. It's based on the F3 tub but with changes for safety (side head protection) and cost - e.g. the front suspension is a simpler setup and the pushrod doesn't pass through an aperture in the tub, instead it goes through a slot in the damper cover (hence crashing is less likely to damage the tub).

I don't think it was that bad for a composite chassis spec-formula car, bearing in mind we had to build 30 or so at a sensible price and no single seater with head protection at the time was especially pretty, even the expensive ones!

Having said all that I am more interested in the F3 cars and would certainly like to be reacquainted with one, and/or drawings from the time which I worked on.

@MDCutting

Hello! Here is a picture of the one I own (labelled 036F, yet actually the 037F version), being the last and lightest chassis produced by Tom’s GB. It was raced by Kevin McGarrity for a half season, then Andy Priaulx for a couple of races. Its last venture being the All-India series with Rowan Racing in 1999. When the Tom’s GB factory at Ingham was sold to the VW Group, all chassis and parts were bought by Ray Rowan, to race both Dallara F398 in class B of the British F3 championship, keeping the four 037F aside.
Keeping in touch with Ray on various circuits, I met one of your former colleagues at Tom’s GB, a Japanese engineer who later worked for Jordan GP...

Edit : the Tom's GB factory was at Hingham (and not Ingham), Norfolk. Sorry...
