Competition Time
Who's been to the most races this season? And what's the furthest you've travelled to get to a track?

My total is:
8 BTCC meetings
1 Grand Prix (mad enough to do all three days though!!!)
7 Powertours
1 ALMS
1 Jordan 10th Anniversary Bash and
1 CSCC meeting
Don't think I've missed anything, unless you include one Autosport Show right at the beginning of the year!

The furthest I've travelled to get to any of these is probably Snetterton or Brands (think it was Brands actually, but can't remember the exact mileage). Thruxton's not so far behind in terms of distance either.

You lot had just a bit of a head start, but...

Goodwood
Jordan EJ10
Le Mans
BTCC x5
PowerTour x2
CSCC x2
Renault / Historic
BOSS / FSaloons

There's probably more, but that's what I recall. Plus the trucks, obviously...

Werl, here goes...

Brands Hatch Historic Weekend
Brands Hatch Aston Martin Owners Club raceday
Brands Hatch Historic Sports Car Club
Donington Aston Martin Owners Club & Group C sportscars
Donington Vintage Sports Car Club Seaman Memorial Trophy
Donington BRSCC
Goodwood Revival Meeting (3 days)
Mallory Park CSCC
Oulton Park BARC Classic
Silverstone Bentley Drivers Club races
Silverstone Top Hat Classic Saloons
Silverstone Coys Historic Festival (3 days)
Silverstone SUNBAC meeting
Silverstone Vintage Sports Car Club Itala Trophy
Silverstone Aston Martin Owners Club raceday
Silverstone Historic Sports Car Club
Silverstone VSCC Racing Green Festival
Silverstone Powertour finale
Snetterton BTCC night race
Snetterton Aston Martin Owners Club Raceday
Snetterton CSCC finale

plus not actual racing, but fast cars nonetheless..

Brooklands Reunion Meeting
Silverstone F1 Testing (x2)

Furthest distance travelled would be London to Oulton Park. A round trip of about 310 miles for the day.

And while I'm not doing the Donington trucks, that weekend has the prospect of the Veteran Car Club London to Brighton run. A definite highlight of my year.

Not sure I should bother after seeing where TimD has been.

Anyway
2x V8Supercars
1x ASTC
2x state championships
1x Honda Indy
1x F1 GP
1x visit to Winton

I drive quicker, Honda Indy was only 10 and a half away.

Here we go then..

Thruxton X 5 days (BOSS, Powertour etc) + F3 test in Feb..
Castle Combe X 10 days
Cadwell Park X 3 days
Brands Hatch X 2 days (TOCA, Dingle Dell - amazing)
Zolder X 2 days (BOSS and 2CV's)
Goodwood X 3 days (can't be beaten)
Brooklands (MG Midget day)

And finally Castle Combe sprint this weekend and maybe winter series at Brands in a few weeks...

28 (ish) days of motor racing (almost a month!!) An excellent year..

No Silverstone though - shame.

Zolder is the furthest trip, thanks BARC for the travel and free 2 nights in a 4 star hotel!! Although Cadwell always seems a long way coming back on Sunday night...

MGOC / CSCC – Mallory
BTCC Rounds 1 & 2 – Brands Hatch
BTCC Rounds 3 & 4 – Donington
Powertour – Donington
BTCC Rounds 9 & 10 – Oulton
BTCC – Snetterton
BTCC Rounds 17 & 18 – Donington
F1 testing – Silverstone
Formula Saloons – Castle Combe
BTCC Rounds 21 & 22 – Oulton
BTCC Rounds 23 & 24 – Silverstone
Minis – Oulton Park
Powertour – Silverstone
CSCC – Snetterton
Legends – Mallory

Add to that assorted classic car events, and approximately 14 radio controlled car competitions, Chris and I have really racked up the mileage this year!

Most lunatic and mileage-adding excursion was the weekend just gone, which saw us take a 6 hour trip from near Manchester to Snetterton on the Saturday, stay a couple of hours, then take a 3 ½ hour journey back home. Sunday saw us go to Mallory Park (1 ½ hours journey), watch Legends qualifying, badger some drivers, then go back to Snetterton (another 3 hours) for the Classic Saloons, and boy am I glad we bothered!!

There may be other events I've been to but haven't remembered, or left off my schedule document, but I'd be hard pressed to think what I've missed out without going through all the tickets and programmes I've amassed over the year.

Maisie, you missed three!

Silverstone SUNBAC way back in March,
Brands Hatch Historic weekend,
Oulton Park BARC/CSCC meeting.

I know, because I saw you and Chris at all of these!

You've got to win the tenacity award for that roadtrip last weekend. That is pure commitment!

Cheers, Tim!

I knew I'd missed some of the smaller club meets. They don't appear on the master plan I drew up way back at the beginning of the season, and tended to be drop-of-a-hat affairs brought on by "We're not doing anything this Saturday/weekend - let's find something to do!"

Our tally is poor in comparisson - just every round of the BTCC and the furthest was Knockhill 7 hours each way.

Les, I intend to get to Knockhill next year. Will be asking about car sharing nearer the time. The one time I went to Knockhill, back in 97, I flew up there. That was fun. Great track.

I have to admit, i feel a little inadequate in this company, wish we were doing last year, I did a whole lot more spectating in '99. Here goes anyway:-
Aust GP, all four days
V8 Sprint round at QR
V8 lites at Lakeside
QLD500
ASTC at Lakeside
Every Qld State championship meeting
Historic Lakeside
Historic Morgan Park
2 club race meetings at Morgan Park
and still to come, hopefully, a club race meeting at QR
plus Historic round the houses sprints at Leyburn & Lowood

Furthest travel, was of course the GP in Melbourne, 1800km away, that's 1125 miles!

Thruxton - 3 days, PowerTour and BTCC
Castle Combe - 5 Days (Missed both 2 day meetings, bad planning that)
Silverstone - 8 days, PowerTour x 2, ALMS, AMOC, BTCC and Coys.
Donnington - 4 Days, AMOC and SportsRacing World Cup.
Goodwood - 3 days of Revival Meeting - Best of year.

Blimey that's 25 days, no wonder my wife says I'm always off racing. Roll on next year!

I think its about 45 days - and no I am not going to list them. Good job Mrs Flagman is also involved

Furthest was Silverstone - 125 miles each way towing a caravan, just beating Croft - 115 miles, again towing the 'van.

Bloody hell! I'll have to think about this one and get back to you - I lost count ages ago! Last year I brought a program at each meeting so I always knew where I was, but this year I realised I could 2 and a half pints with that money, so i've got about 3 programs...
