This is a seriously good race.
So much better than what they try to pass off as 'racing' in TUSC. |

Hey, I'm happy to see the Lotus having a go at it. It's rather newer than even the Rebellions, so they have some work to do. Still, it's great fun to watch, and then they hit the front straight, and the AER appears to hit the afterburners.

Toyotas clocking 310k every lap. That's impressive performance.

Tough race for Audi. Toyota dominating.

The power of the Porsche is incredible. Webber appears to be having brake problems though.

Audi blows right by the P2 Oak-Morgan ... 100 kg would make a big difference in acceleration and a little in cornering but nothing makes up for twice the horsepower.
I'd like to see 800-kg P2 class ... not sure the P1 factories would. |

The P2s are well off of even the LMP1-L cars in terms of power. It's easy to see from those shots of the Lotus taking off from the P2 leaders. The difference would be even greater if the Lotus was closer to the actual minimum weight. Also, the P1s have greater drag, because of their greater downforce, and would therefore be even faster on the straights with P2 levels of drag.
The trouble is, the greater measure of lap time is made with the downforce, rather than the outright power. Audi has made this plainly apparent, given their lack of top-end. I doubt you could get the current P2s down to 800kg. How much more than the current cars would it cost to make a P2 that was 100kg lighter? Also, how much more would it cost to make that car as reliable as the current crop? |

Real shame how this race is broken up by so many cautions ... oh, wait, that is American racing. This is the series where drivers can handle traffic.

Maelochs, that comment just seemed unnecessary.
As to my previous post, isn't the Lotus the perfect illustration of the challenges of trying to make a P1 out of a P2? I mean, from what I understand, they ended up using the T128 LMP2 as the basis for the CLM P1/01 LMP1. |

Webber is really driving hard to day ... he seemed slow his first few races but he is tearing it up today. Seems like he is having fun.
Oh, and Purist ... I just came from Petit last weekend ... 10 cautions in five hours, 13 in the race overall. Have there been ten cautions all season in WEC outside of Le Mans? But okay ... I will leave TUSC out of it. |

37 laps for Toyota. The most theyve done so far. No tire advantage for Audi sucks their chances out.

Only when/if Audi can double stint tires can they make any headway. They're a ton slower than about anything else in LMP1 down the front straight.
Won't help them much at Bahrain or Shanghai with those long main straights unless one, they run better at those tracks, and/or two, they can double stint at those places. Also doesn't help that the #2 is off sequence with its pit stops, too. |

Webber may have the race's fastest lap, but he's really slowing up now, losing quite a bit to both Toyotas, both Audis, and his teammate.
