The STR C6.R looks even more hideous when it moves - I really can't remember ever seeing a vette livery that outrageous! Btw, even Edwards hinted how massively the BoP worked against Corvettes last year. Orly... |

Only to an extent.
Phoenix only ran one car for how much of the 2010 season? And given that the team owner was driving, only one of the Mad Croc cars had a real shot of winning, or doing particularly well. Also, in the second half of the season, the Corvette teams/drivers shot themselves in the feet on a number of occasions by making stupid mistakes, like the Mad Croc car contacting the Lambo on the pass for the lead at Spa when it was totally unnecessary, and getting a puncture out of it. BTW, I take it that they're using the same layout at Abu Dhabi this weekend that the V8 Supercars have been using? |

Why Munnich lost their pole? There was a gearbox change after which there were some questions from stewards. But what's the problem?

The duo were deemed by the stewards to have ignored a black and orange flag during Q1 which means they start in sixth place. The infringement centred on the team starting the car on an external battery, which isn't allowed under the regulations and the All-Inkl.com Muennich Motorsport team received a formal reprimand.

Good drive from him indeed, but i think he was more lucky that this track layout is utter **** and has 0 overtaking spots, its almost as if the FIA are trying to make GT1 as processional as F1...

Agree, rubbish race because whenever you got to the leading car you stalled, and for most of the race it was just a glorified parade. Sad part is GT1 is going to a lot of tracks like this in 2011.

Even the V8s layout of Abu Dhabi should give 3 decent overtaking spots, at Turns 1, 8, and 11. The full GP circuit does give you another one at Turn 5, and a longer straight into Turn 8, but even so, this layout shouldn't be that bad for the GT1s. I'll have to go through the races properly though to give a good assessment of what's actually happening.
As for the other tracks on the schedule, Zolder has held GT1s before, and should NOT be dire by any means. Algarve, Silverstone, Navarra, Paul Ricard (though it will have the chicane), and Potrero de los Funes will be perfectly fine for GT1 racing as well. Sachsenring only looks tight from the plan view, but once you get out of that early infield section, you have a LONG, high-speed run around till that left-hander at the bottom of the hill (the penultimate corner). And the front straight there, despite appearances, is 780m long, so not exactly puny. Curitiba isn't Interlagos, but it has a fairly open layout, and at least 2 decent overtaking sports: Esse de Baixa and Etrada do Miolo. And a bad corner exit, especially off of the Esse de Alta, could lead to some creative passing opportunities. Ordos is the only new venue I'm really concerned about. It just has the one decent "straight", is rather busy on the whole, and isn't particularly long. Taking out that chicane on the back stretch there would do quite a bit to improve racing for the more powerful cars. |

The website live stream was phenomenal, at least where I was at (in Germany at the time). I agree the race was a bit boring and processional, but it was great to hear the sound of race engines from in-car and overhead camera angles.

What a dissapointing race! That track layout with shorter straight meant **** all overtaking! Was watching it & was praying something would happen! I hope Zolder & indeed the rest of the season will be better than this! They better go back to the F1 layout for Abu Dhabi next year!

The main issue I saw was the guy second in line ducking out too soon to the outside on the stretch from Turn 9 to Turn 11. This meant that the following car(s) often didn't get the optimum slipstream for as long as was really needed, and so, quite a few passing attempts were foiled by the drivers themselves.
Also, the second car, with the Nissans running 1-2 in particular, just kept going to the outside at Turn 8, when the driver needed to at least take a shot up the inside and put the leading car taking a defensive line into a tricky situation as well. And really, the Ford making an honest passing place of Turn 18 (something I would have never thought I'd see) made my day. The biggest thing Abu Dhabi NEEDS is real grass outside of the lines that mark the official racetrack. Some of the cuts those guys can get away with are just ridiculous. |

I caught the end of the race with Westbrook fending off the GT-R for the last two laps on BloombergTV.
Was quite exciting - but the stands did look very empty !! |

Watching the race now. Really good grid of drivers isn't it, impressive quality.
Empty stands. 99.99% of people in the UAE have no interest in circuit racing, apart from F1 of course. The majority of those that would turn up will sit in the pit straight stands (which are the worst at the circuit), and not really shown on TV. |
