LM24 Le Mans or Bust

Every year, my New Year's Resolution is to go to Le Mans THIS year, and my Christmas Wish is to DEFINITELY go to Le Mans NEXT year. And it's always about money. I'm sure that a lot of you have been over there hundreds of times, can you give me advice on how to "do" Le Mans on a (tight!) budget?

Drive from UK would cost £3 - 400 incl ticket and ferry. Depends on how many people in car how much you eat and drink. I assume you want to see some practice.

You will have to work out the fuel burn then to LM. About 130 miles west from Paris.

Tickets cost about 320FF campsite 200 - 250 FF. Both are for the week. Grandstands vary 190 - 470FF. All will be Euro's next year of course.

Camping is the norm, so take gas fire, stock up from local hypermarket. Foos and drink is very expensive from the circuit vendors, but they are open all week 24 hrs a day.

Arrange to meet up with various 10/10 groups. Don't expect a lot of sleep. The fireworks Thursday & Friday evening are worth the entry alone.

Call the ACO direct for tickets, but do it soon as they claim to sell out.

Personally I would recommend Houx Annex for camping, but all have their favourites. I would suggest that you see practice Thursday PM, relax Friday, pit walkabout etc, see race, camp Sunday night and early start Monday AM home.

A Cheap room will cost about FF300 but will not be too close (Within 100Km) ie Formule1 Chain

A Campsite ticket is around FF300 but they will be sold out by January if this year is anything to go by and the good sites (ie Trackside)fill up fast to get a pitch by the fence you will need to be there when the open.

General Admission is about FF350.

So just add that to your fuel costs to get to there not forgetting tolls etc

Can't advise on doing it on the cheap - our trips are normally pretty expensive!! I have to save up all year! Having said that, in '92, '93 and '98 I went over with MRI (Chequers as was in '92), the cost of which was pretty reasonable.

Thing is, they (like Page & Moy) only run from the UK - right??
It wouldn't make any sense for me to go to London first, then back to France.

There's a 10-Tenths Pilgrimage but we go from England. You may, however, wish to get in on the chat session in January when we plan this shindig, and perhaps you can hear something there that will help you. We make our arrangements through Airtrack.

If you have a car you are set.
Work out your fuel mileage, get a car park ticket adn general admission from the ACO, head down Saturday morning, head back after the race, grab what sleep you can in the car.
Thats the cheapest way.

Station is a bit of a walk, but you can get a taxi...
But it gives you nowhere to sleep, bring a big waterproof coat and sleep where you fall?

Sleep? What's that? On Friday and Sunday nights, by all means, but certainly not during the race!!
