Touring car nirvana

I thought I'd compile an idea running through a lot of threads and ask: what's your ideal, universal touring car formula, now that Super Touring is dead?

I'd go for three-litre engines, as many or as few cylinders as you like (though most would be V6s), rear- and four-wheel drive allowed with weight equalisation, big wheels and wings but a degree of control over said wings, and, of course, NO HATCHBACKS! I'd see a list (by no means comprehensive) of eligible cars being:

BMW 3-series
Lexus IS
Renault Laguna
Nissan Primera
Audi A4
Mercedes-Benz C-Class
Volvo S60
Ford Mondeo
Vauxhall/Opel Vectra
Honda Accord
Alfa Romeo 156
SEAT Cordoba
VW Passat
Peugeot 406

Ola should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I love the current DTM-formula - I would just like to see more manufacturers in it.

Alfa
BMW
Volvo
Honda
etc.

That would be enought to make me happy

aussie v8s, are currently the best form of touring cars, but i would rather see a return for the mid 90s touring cars, they were by far the best cars and the the cars that the everyday man in the street could connect with..
no hatches or coupes, 4 dr salloons only, restricted wings and 2.0 ltr only.
audi a4
bmw 3 series
vauxhall vectra
ford mondeo
volvo s40
renault laguna
nissan primera
skoda octavia
alfa 156
mg zs
honda accord
pug 406

Group A, with abit more work done on getting the turbo equivalency factor correct, that would be perfect. There would be loads of different cars from different manufacturers and different shapes and sizes. Class racing based on the road going cars, what Touring Cars is all about.

Either that or Group N+, with both the under 3 litres and over 3 litres regulations.

The problem with all of the current one's is that they are either restricted to small bore cars, or large capacity cars only, or in the case of the DTM or V8Supercars, aren't Touring Cars at all.
