STCC expanding to Scandinavian Championship?

Scandinavian Championship?
STCC 23/05/03

The STCC has signed a long-term deal with the Swedish Motorsport Association. This deal enables the STCC to expand in Scandinavia. "The deal gives us the opportunity to develop and improve the STCC," Lennart Nodby from STCC AB said. "Our closest task is already next year to expand the championship to a Scandinavian championship with races in Sweden, Denmark and perhaps also in Norway." The development for the STCC has progressed well since the start 1996.

Today the championship is the next largest sport in Sweden after Football, but it is bigger than Hockey. Approximately half a million people see each race on TV. Some changes for immediate introduction have also been made alongside the changes for next year. The Super Pole has been moved to the Sunday of each race weekend and the Friday practice will be removed to reduce costs.

Jesper OH should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
First of all, congratulations with your current championship. I had a first hand experience of the Mantorp Park race a few weeks ago. Quality in drivers, teams, cars, sponsors, racing, tracks, ...

This same story has been around in Denmark since last summer but with a slight difference. Here it has been told as a joint effort by the Swedes and the Danes - not as the expansion of the Swedish series.

Realistically I think your version of the story is the one that will happen, or it will not happen at all.

My previous live exposure to Swedish motorsport happened back in 1991 at the Newsrace at Ring Knutstorp. A lot has happened with the Swedish and Danish racing scene since!...though, the cars were more exciting then.

Best regards

The Scandinavian series is a great idea - but it must include a Helsinki street race!
