Well, if he goes to Ducati and stays in WSBK while Bayliss heads off to MotoGP, Edwards would be unbeatable.

But after this year, he deserves it.

is the ducati a better bike than the honda - as far as i can see there is only 1 ducati rider who is beating colin! stay with honda and you will still have a good chance at the title next year..... bostrom isnt a threat and neither is xaus - possibly neil

Speaking as a Honda rider, sadly, I think the Ducati is the better bike......

Neil will be on a full factory backed Ducati next year, most likely alongside Xaus, but that's IF Colin doesn't take the ride.

If Colin does, then I reckon it could be Colin and Neil with Xaus drafted out to a satellite team like Bostrom.

Hopefully Colin stays on the Honda. The we'd have also the Ducati mob, Corser and haga hopefully battling it out at the front, also maybe Eric B and maybe Nick hayden if he doesnt go to MOto Gp.

It's James Haydon, not Nick Hayden

DRT is referring to the American Superbike rider Nicky Haydon. He rides a Honda in the AMA championship - and was giving Colin hell in race 1 at Laguna Seca.

Nicky Hayden raced last weekend, and is rumoured to be near a GP ride.

Edwards, he would probably be tempted by a Ducati offer, but i think it depends on what Honda want to do with him, if they pull out, then he would probably be off to Ducati.

As gomick said, i reckon that difference is the rider, not the bike, Bostrom and Xaus have been struggling all year, so maybe it is just great riding by Troy.

As for Hodgson next year, how will he adjust the Michelin tyres, last time he rode the factory Ducati's in 1996 & 1997, on Michelins, he choked.

Yep the Hm Plant team is Dunny's, he has riden well considering that the Dunlop tyres have been no where thus year. I do feel that the Ducati does have some sort of advantage over the Honda and other bikes in the series.

This is really interesting. Bayliss is the ingedient that makes the Ducati cake. I remember him racing against international class competition in the mid nineties, he always was the one to beat.

But Edwards on a Duke? I am not sure. Colin is no one's fool and the strength of Honda is like a drug. I recall him saying a few years ago when things where not going right in the Supers ... comon' let's go 500 racing.

Seems like the times may have passed him by.

I remember that, after he fell off on the oil at Nurburgring in 1999, he wasn't a happy chappy that day.

The Ducati is the best bike around, but Edwards is such a good rider that he's dragging that Honda up with him, and that is why he's beating riders like Xaus and Bostrom who are on superior machines.

Honda have not been as focused on WSBK for the past couple of years because of their increased involvement to MotoGP, with the development of the four-stroke, and this may sway Colin in a defection to Ducati.

The only thing that would stop Colin is the availability of a seat and also what Honda have to offer for 2003. He does have strong links with the Japanese manufacturer and won't be silly enough to throw that all away just yet.

In the article it also said that Hayden partnering him in the Castrol team wouldn't happen because they were both American. It didn't bother any of the Japanese manufacturers in 500s in the late 80s and early 90s to have riders from the same country in the one factory team.

Take 1990:

Rothmans Honda - Gardner & Doohan (both Aussies)
Marlboro Yamaha Roberts - Lawson & Rainey (Both American)
Lucky Strike Suzuki - Schwantz & Macgee (one aussie & one american)
